    Cad Railway also operates facilities in Calgary and Lethbridge (branded as Caltrax) and has recently been chosen by the ONxpress Transportation Partners group to manage all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet, comprising around 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives.

    In addition, Cad Railway's delivery team will be responsible for overseeing and servicing Metrolinx's rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke, Whitby, and various daytime and overnight service locations throughout the Metrolinx service area.


    Summary of the role:


    Supervisor Car Shop - will oversee the rail vehicle maintenance operations at the Car Shop - Willowbrook facility for Metrolinx's Legacy Fleet Maintenance, ensuring compliance with customer contractual requirements.

    This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners, and stakeholders.

    Reporting to the Revenue Vehicle Maintenance Manager, the Supervisor will manage vehicle maintenance at the Car Shop utilizing resources efficiently and maintaining high safety standards.


    Core Accountabilities:

    • Foster a culture emphasizing safety, customer service, and equal opportunity. Establish a work environment that prioritizes Health and Safety protocols, environmental procedures, and zero tolerance for workplace violence and harassment
    • Supervise a team of unionized maintenance employees, overseeing operations, organizing tasks, providing direction, and ensuring team performance. Coach and develop frontline staff, ensuring timely completion of all rail equipment services
    • Conduct safety briefings and oversee investigations and correction of safety incidents and hazards. Perform facility inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols
    • Make informed decisions regarding operations, resource allocation, customer service concerns, and corrective actions. Review and approve maintenance work orders
    • Engage in meetings with staff, management, and customers to provide insights on operational aspects
    • Offer guidance on technical issues, maintain awareness of industry best practices in rail equipment maintenance
    • Serve as the main point of contact for investigating customer equipment maintenance issues, preparing comprehensive reports on findings and recommendations
    • Coordinate special projects, support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and reduce costs. Monitor equipment reliability indicators and implement improvement strategies
    • Provide input on financial budget preparation, ensure department operates within budget constraints and justify expenditures
    • Recommend departmental policies and procedures, maintain positive union relationships, and support employee engagement efforts
    • Communicate KPIs, present data, alert senior management of potential issues
    • Collaborate with the team to generate recurring operational reports
    • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and human resources guidelines
    • Qualifications:
    • Build strong relationships with operations teams and unionized maintenance staff
    • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in rail maintenance or related fields
    • Proficient in handling complex technical issues, demonstrating integrity and ethics
    • Knowledgeable in safety promotion, preventative maintenance, scheduling, and parts management
    • Competent in computer usage and vehicle maintenance programs
    • Hold a diploma or degree in a relevant field
    Consideration will be given to education, training, and overall experienceNice to have:

    • Experience in unionized environments
    • Familiarity with industries like Aerospace
