Position Description

The Aerial Firefighter Ground Instructor will be responsible for providing the following types of training to De Havilland Aviation Training/De Havilland Aircraft of Canada customers:

  • CL-215T, CL-415 and DHC-515 maintenance theoretical and practical training.
  • CL215T, CL415 and DHC515 pilot theoretical training (aircraft systems and avionics).


The Aerial Firefighter Ground Instructor is responsible for safely operating De Havilland Aircraft of Canada and customer aircraft and/or training devices for the purposes of ground training, and for delivering high caliber ground training to maintenance personnel and pilots of varied experience levels.

Location


Position will be based at the De Havilland Aviation Training Centre in Calgary, with frequent travel to customer locations worldwide.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Training Manager, and ultimately to the General Manager.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Execution of the daytoday training operations in a way that meets the expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Understands the client mission requirements and works to provide creative solutions and options to meet the mission.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness in the face of sometimes challenging and changing situations.
  • Conducts training in accordance with procedures in approved Policy Manual (PM) and Maintenance Training Organization Exposition (MTOE).
  • Conduct risk analysis for any operations and engage De Havilland Aviation Training staff in SMS reviews.
  • Focus on continuous improvement.
  • Support accident/incident/hazard investigations as required.
  • Provide world class training which meets De Havilland Aviation Training service standards.
  • Perform other servicerelated duties for De Havilland Aviation Training/De Havilland Aircraft of Canada customers on an as needed basis.
  • Ensure the classroom and cockpit procedures trainer facilities are kept in a state of readiness which meets De Havilland Aviation Training standards.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner, including ground school logs, tracking sheets, SMS reports, training records, and financial reports.
  • Support and implement De Havilland Aviation Training strategic and business objectives.
  • Contribute positively to the culture, growth and strategic direction of the companies.
  • Attend and participate in a variety of professional and instructor development programs.
  • Maintain any professional certifications (licenses, ratings, etc.) to perform the duties of their position.
  • Assisting the training team in research and development of advanced training products.
  • Assist in continuous development of the Aerial Firefighter training program.
  • Participation in a quality assurance program that involves detailed recordkeeping, survey delivery/participation, and continuous improvement both for the students, and as a staff member.
  • Participate willingly in training standards assessment reviews. Guidelines for these reviews will follow the ICAO instructor competencies form.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Training Manager or General Manager.

Requirements:


  • Holder or previous holder of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license.
  • Experience as a technician in a maintenance facility.
  • Previous experience with Aerial Firefighter aircraft (CL215T, CL415).
  • A verifiable history of work in an instructional capacity (maintenance type rating, training department member, pilot training technical).
  • Intermediate general computer operation skills (Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Desire to work in an aviation training role in a classroom environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with people in a dynamic environment.
