The Royal Canadian Yacht Club is a world class yacht club with a mandate to promote excellence in competitive sailing and sports. The RCYC operates year-round from two facilities: our summer home at the Island Clubhouse and our City Clubhouse in downtown Toronto at St George and Bloor. With over 4000 Members we have extensive services in Food and Beverage along with Fitness, Sports and Sailing facilities.

Summary

  • The Carpenter is responsible for the general care and maintenance of the Club facilities and grounds.

Duties

  • Carry out preventive maintenance/repairs on facilities, grounds, and equipment, including, but not limited to, carpentry work, painting, and general upkeep.
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Maintain a wide variety of power tools in good/safe working condition
  • Perform all duties according to Health and Safety Standards
  • Work jointly with other staff when repairing and troubleshooting
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Manager

Requirements

:


  • A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Must have Carpenter Trade Certification
  • At least two years successful experience in the carpentry trade is required.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding the proper use of material and means of performing repairs
  • Able to take direction and work unsupervised
  • Good communication, customer service and problemsolving skills
  • Work effectively in a team environment

Health and Safety

  • Must work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulation and follow in accordance to the Club's Health and Safety polices and procedures
  • Report all accidents, illnesses, or 'near miss" incidents to your direct reporting Manager immediately

Hours of Work
hours per week. Able to work shifts (day/ afternoons/evenings)

  • Able to work outdoors under various weather conditions
  • Must be able to work some weekends and public holidays as required
