    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing leadership and guidance in supporting Durham College (DC) faculty to deliver exemplary teaching and learning experiences through the development of both in-person and digital pedagogical practices that are innovative and grounded in evidence-based strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to develop varied faculty supports.
  • Work directly with faculty members, Academic Faculties and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) as an expert consultant in teaching and learning including lesson planning and development, instructional practices, active learning strategies, authentic assessment, student engagement and academic integrity in both in-person and digital learning environments.
  • Plan and deliver academic orientation (in-person and online) for all new full-time and contract faculty, as well as plan and coordinate academic and faculty development activities such as monthly workshops, Academic PD Day, the College Teaching Certificate, Teaching Squares, and the Faculty Mentorship Program.
  • Oversee DC's Digital Learning Strategy and support digital learning initiatives to meet the goals outlined in DC's Digital Learning Framework.
  • Collaborate with ALT and faculty members to support the development or conversion of course content for digital delivery modalities, and to investigate and integrate Generative AI activities and outcomes in alignment with established quality standards.
  • Supports Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research to drive creativity & innovation to enrich student learning and enhance faculty teaching experiences, including consultation for proposed projects, review and acceptance of proposals, and support with researcher needs and dissemination of findings.
  • Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD/EdD in education or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution (focus on adult or higher education, teaching and learning, curriculum, digital/online teaching and learning, and/or science of learning is considered an asset)
  • Minimum of five years of leadership experience in higher education;
  • Minimum of five years of proven excellence in instructional practice in adult or higher education;
  • Deep understanding of traditional and digital pedagogy/andragogy, the science of learning and best practices in teaching and learning in higher education, including active and authentic learning, assessment strategies and student engagement in all modes of delivery (face-to-face, hybrid and online);
  • Familiarity with the integration of educational technology and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in teaching and learning;
  • Ability to support teaching and learning in a diverse educational environment;
  • Strong written and spoken English language skills;
  • Confident presentation skills and experience with group facilitation and developing, leading and delivering professional development workshops and/or tutorials;
  • Experience in project or event planning and management.
