    Reporting to the Supervisor, Environmental Operations, the Field Environmental Coordinator is the field point of contact for all environmental issues and plays a key role in the overall coordination and implementation of the field environmental programs, proactive initiatives, and regulatory compliance, through the full life cycle of our projects (applications, exploration, production operations, maintenance, construction, drilling, completions, remediation and reclamation activities).


    The person(s) in this role (are) is responsible for ensuring alignment with the environmental components of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System, supporting day to day operations, leading spill preparedness and response and improving environmental performance.


    The Field Environmental Coordinator position is primarily field based, scheduled as a back-to-back rotational position and is an integral part of the Environmental Operations team.

    Responsibilities

    The Field Environmental Coordinator is responsible for tasks in the following work areas:


    Day-to-day support:

    • Assure compliance with all environmental requirements for operations in collaboration with Regulatory Affairs and Operations;
    • Support Operations on environmental programs, initiatives and issues including; fugitive emissions detection and repairs, flaring/venting and GHG verification, waste management, noise assessments, erosion control, vegetation management, water withdrawal/discharge, spill response/cleanup, and wildlife interactions and mitigations.
    • Complete environmental inspections as pipelines and other facilities progress through various stages of their life cycle (application, construction, drilling, completions, operations and decommissioning/abandonment)
    • Support implementation of permit, license and approval conditions for construction and production operations;
    • Coordinate and direct contract service providers conducting environmental work to ensure safe, quality and cost effective delivery of services;
    • Manage scope of work and budgets associated with environmental work;
    • Work with the Health and Safety, Sustainable Development and Regulatory Affairs teams to ensure consistent program execution, regulatory interaction and planning;
    • Act as a liaison between the facilities and Calgary Staff, keeping Supervisor, Environmental Operations and others up to date of on-site activities and changing conditions as required.

    Spill response:

    • Assist Operations in developing spill response plans, maintain spill response equipment/supplies and ensure readiness and coordinate response to spills/releases,
    • Report regulatory non-compliance and complete all required follow up documentation and communication with regulatory agencies to close out incidents;
    • Support incident documentation, investigation, corrective action and verification of environmental and regulatory incidents;

    Environmental Performance:

    • Engage with field staff and contractors to increase environmental awareness and improve environmental performance;
    • Support and/or pilot innovative environmental best practices, monitoring and reporting solutions (e.g. bioengineering, WasteCoordinatorTM, continuous emissions monitoring platforms, drones etc...)
    • Collect and analyze environmental data to identify trends and issues to support enhancements to environmental programs;
    • Track and assess environmental incident trends and causal factors to inform improvements to processes/programs, and
    • In collaboration with Calgary staff, develop programs designed to improve environmental performance.
    Basic/Required Qualifications

    • Minimum of post-secondary degree in environmental science or equivalent.
    • Strong technical knowledge and experience in environmental operations support.
    • Strong familiarity with British Columbia environmental requirements.
    • Minimum 5 years direct field environmental operations experience.
    • An understanding of oil and gas production operations.
    • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
    • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
    • Ability and flexibility to work on rotation.
    • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
    Preferred Qualifications

    • Technical Expertise - Knowledgeable and experienced with the fundamentals of environmental management and environmental incident response.
    • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results under pressure while remaining flexible to rapidly changing conditions and priorities.
    • Proficient in written and verbal communication, technical report writing and file management.

    o Incident investigation.

    • Strong team player with an ability to carry out assignments with limited guidance.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including Indigenous community members.
    • Ability to operate a drone to acquire aerial imagery and process resulting imagery into useful end products is an asset.
