Position Summary

  • Toronto Health Economics and Technology Assessment Collaborative (THETA) at the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI), University Health Network (UHN)_

THETA is a multidisciplinary research collaboration dedicated to providing evidence-informed decision support to health technology policy makers and advancing the science of health technology assessment (HTA). THETA works in partnership with the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the University Health Network. We are located at the Toronto General Hospital in the heart of the Discovery District of Toronto.


We are seeking a motivated
Research Associate with expertise in clinical research in the area of bladder cancer and experience in working with administrative health care data.

The Research Associate reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) and will work collaboratively with the project team and under the direction of the PI.


Duties
Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:

  • Develop, plan and implement study protocols under the direction of the Director/PI

These activities may include:

  • Assisting with the production of accurate and timely data/reports including the development of data creation and analytic plans; data interpretation and presentation; and the development of procedures for data validation as appropriate.
  • Assisting in grant/project submissions including budget preparation;
  • Assisting with study design and sampling strategies;
  • Familiarity and experience in administering health questionnaires to cancer patients;
  • Familiarity with acquiring and analyzing administrative health care data (i.e. IC/ES data)
  • Analyze data using statistical software according to SAS Programming Standards (or R) independently and/or in collaboration with team member(s) or IC/ES Analysts:
  • Carry out statistical analysis on developed study cohorts according to specifications of project analysis plans;
  • Prepare and review (with the Director, Staff Scientist, or PI as required) analytic output (e.g., tables and reports).
  • Stakeholder management activities:
  • Interface and coordinate meetings with internal and external stakeholders and partners in support of the project such as expert panels, focus groups, committees and team meetings;
  • Facilitate the uptake of knowledge by local decisionmakers across Ontario through the presentation of findings, education sessions, and oneonone interactions as required.
  • General project management which may include:
  • Monitoring project timelines, risks and deliverables in collaboration with other team members;
  • Managing project budgets and allocating funds in collaboration with the PI;
  • Liaising with the Finance, Privacy and Compliance, and Procurement departments of the University Health Network and/or University of Toronto;
  • Draft and revise reports (technical reports/working papers/THETA publications/webbased summaries), abstracts, poster presentations, manuscripts for peerreviewed publications and other relevant deliverables, in collaboration with the PI or Staff Scientist;
  • Work with the Communications department at University Health Network and/or University of Toronto to finalize written and graphic formats and to create report dissemination plans.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master's degree in health/life sciences, public health or a related field with 2 years working experience
    or a university degree with extensive experience (5+ years) in health care research
  • Experience in managing clinical, epidemiological and/or health services research projects and/or experience in health planning and decision support;
