May flowers

In 1557 Thomas Tusser compiled a collection of writings he called A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry. In the April Husbandry section he wrote:

Sweet April showers

Do spring May flowers

which became over time the phrase that most of us know as April showers, bring May flowers. The phrase may be invoked when we want to put a positive spin on a negative event in our life.
