BRONZE LEARNING HIVE

FITNESSDuring my Saturday "Success Masters" grouping our President-Elect Enis happened to ask the one question during our impromptu speaking challenge that DOES benefit from a personal brand response when we are not prepared to deal with this question or we are at an age where we are still growing rather than fully formed adults.  So this question can touch the area of the uncomfortable and crosses the line that can get us to question our life when we are not ready for that question, or the question may shake our own personal foundation if our minds tend to over-think things or our fear response triggers an internal chemical response that floods our body with anxiety.

So it is with such an open ended question as the one Enis posed :

What is the difference between Life and Existence?

In that second I did not shoot off an answer.  Instead I composed myself and allowed myself pause, in part credit to the five young students in the room who had demonstrated skills of pause and very articulate responses.  Only two things could happen once I gave my answer, either they laugh because they are caught off-guard with my response, or all five have an uncomfortable feeling of feeling a little bit insulted that the answer opens questions about how it is they live their life - but in my pause I realized that I was not going to give a branded or scripted response, but one that carries an air of discomfort when we think about this.

So I began.  Using hand gestures, I pointed towards me and said "This is Life".  Pause.  Then with a gesture that reached out to the audience, a circular wave that indicated I am referencing all the students listening to me "This is Existence".   "I have life and you have existence".  Now I was not saying I have "A Life" but that I have "Life".  I went on to say that at the corresponding age of the students in the room (in their early 20's) my focus was still on how all the points of my life journey shall connect, and more-or-less how the dot moments of my life actually connected is not that much different how I envisioned my life to be when I was 20.

Whereas existence is either making a living or a feeling that we have "a life" where the meaning of "a life" is enjoying all the toys and whistles economic society has provided for us to expend our time (hence expenditure) - and that is all in the realm of existence.  The choices I made when I was 20 would not equate with this sense that my own peers when they were 20 had about their life what "a life" is.

Now nearly four decades later those of my peers who chose existence still go and out travel, but they come home with questions that create greater psychic disequilibrium, for some regret starts to set in and all one can say when that happens is "Forgetaboutit", what we did not pay regard to that was actually important later in life is our own youthful m.  As they lose loved one's and age begins manifest itself upon them, I know plenty of people of my age who are living disquieted lives - because the one thing they lived for (Existence as a branded entity) is coming to an end with their working lives (for they invested more in image then what was real).

There then is a big difference between enjoying being alone (LIFE) and feeling physically alone or lonely (EXISTENCE) :
