Superhero For The Week Of October 28: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This is the second in what will hopefully, through the winter, be a series of posts on people who IMHO quality for superhero status in our culture.

These posts are not awards or rewards or anything like that. They are just mini profiles about some of the people I have come to admire, who are working to change the world for the better.

That is to say she is a very attractive and beautiful woman. But more importantly, she is also smart as a whip and takes no bullshit from anyone, as her performance in the US Congress and her championing and defending of the Democrat’s Green New Deal has clearly indicated.

She was elected as congressional representative for the 24th District of New York in 2018, and she is extremely popular with the people she represents.

At 30 she is one of the youngest people in Congress, but don’t let that fool you. She has come to this job loaded for bear and fully aware of what she would be up against. Specifically the attitude of all the old fart Republicans, in the senate especially, who see her as a know-nothing punk.

That notwithstanding, she has come to represent the adage ‘No Country For Old Men’ in national politics. She has levels of energy, wit, and emotional intelligence that most people her age are still a decade or more from developing.

She is what is known in America as a democratic socialist, and therefore is pretty much aligned with Bernie Sanders in that regard.

The fact that Bernie Sanders is surging in the polls these days means that an ever growing number of Americans are starting to wake up to the reality that old school Republican politics (aka Trumpian), is doing nothing for the country, except making it a worse place to live and a harder place to find success, especially in terms of the economy and heath care, which are the two most important issues in the public mind. And she is, in a very articulate and thoughtful way, going about the business of pointing that out to people.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez is a classic example of someone from the 'real' America, outside the constipated confines of traditional swampy Washington politics. She is, IMHO, very much a part of a positive future for that country, as the old guard, rich, white old school, ultra-conservative ethos starts to wither and die.

And quite honestly, I genuinely believe she is carrying that mantle with real class. And being only 30 years old and as smart as she is, she is inspiring a lot of young people to start caring more about what the powers that be in America are really up to.
