The Song.

The following is a poem from “Life as a Bean,” a children’s book in search of a publisher. It consists of 112 parables of life that may or may not be inspirational (depending on your love of horses, vegetables and other nonsense):

A man wrote a song, a very nice song
Yet no one recalled the words
“It goes like this,” everyone said
Or that’s what they thought they heard
They forgot the chorus or forgot the verse
Or forgot which verse came first
Yet everyone thought it was such a nice song
Except, of course, for the words
A woman wrote a song, a very sad song
Yet no one remembered its name
“The world’s so full of songs,” they said
“Sometimes they’d all sound the same”
The lyrics were sad, they remembered that
They spoke of tears and pain
But everyone listening had to agree
They couldn’t remember the name
Somebody wrote a number one hit
A song you couldn’t forget
Every word in every verse
Seemed to stick in your head
People hummed it, some even strummed it
The sales kept soaring and soaring
Till out of the blue — except for a few —
Everyone found it boring.
