    $62, $78,589.00The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation sets the strategic direction and oversees the administration of the University of Ottawa's research enterprise, including funding, equipment and facilities, international collaborations, partnerships and business development.

    Position Purpose

    This position plays an integral role in the office's mission and helps the University and research community to know and follow University and granting agency policies on ethics of research involving humans and responsible conduct of research. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing and managing ethics-related cases and provides administrative and operational support to the OREI, Research Ethics Boards (REBs) and the director. As well, the incumbent serves as the first contact point for researchers regarding questions on OREI procedures, files submitted for ethics review and requirements of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2).

    Knowledge, Experience and Skills

    • Bachelor's in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Three years' experience in a similar role
    • Excellent knowledge of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2)
    • Experience in interpreting, explaining and applying regulations. as well as in analyzing complex documents
    • Experience with file management programs (an asset)
    • Experience in analysis and report production
    • Experience in meeting coordination
    • Knowledge of research environments
    • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
    • Knowledge and proven experience in office administration, office techniques and reception
    • Experience with computer systems and software (word processors, spreadsheets, databases, email, internet)
    • Solid interpersonal and written communications skills
    • Ability to ensure confidentiality
    • Meticulousness, attention to detail and results-oriented focus
    • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
    • Ability to work at a consistent pace and learn quickly
    • Bilingualism — French and English (spoken and written); applicants must demonstrate superior proficiency in both spoken and reading comprehension in French and English. Their language skills will be determined through a written test, as well as during the interview.

The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
