    Effective April 1, 2024, the salary range for this position is $ $50.33 per hour.

    As a Youth Services Manager at Sprucedale Youth Centre you will manage operations and implement rehabilitative programs and services for youth within a secure custody/detention facility.

    You will help to ensure that facility programs, policies and procedures are consistent with the Ministry vision and Youth Justice Division standards.

    Please note:
    The hours of work for this position are up to 40 hours per week (pre-scheduled and on-call).

    You are expected to work rotating shifts within a secure custody/detention facility setting that functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    As the Youth Services Manager you will:

    • Manage staff, coordinate operations and implement rehabilitative programs and services for youth within a secure custody/detention facility.
    • Contribute to the development of programs, policies and procedures.
    • Manage operations and programs within a 24/7 secure custody/detention facility for youth.
    • Manage practices for compliance with facility standards, policies and procedures, legislation and security procedures.
    • Support youth in addressing concerns with their care services and rights by supervising the development of case management plans for facility input.

    Leadership and

    Managerial Skills:



    • You have demonstrated leadership, managerial and coaching skills to manage staff, promote team morale and productivity to ensure operational effectiveness.
    • You can communicate standards and priorities, assign and review work, evaluate work performance, coach and train staff, and identify and escalate performance issues.
    • You have experience using human resources practices, policies and collective agreements in relation to recruitment, training and development, and employee relations.
    • You have proven experience administering program operations, analyzing financial, material and human resources needs, and developing work plans to meet program objectives.

    Program Delivery and Technical Knowledge:




    • You have knowledge of financial and administrative procedures and project management principles and methodologies.
    • You have knowledge of issues, disorders factors, general theories and techniques impacting youth in a rehabilitative environment.
    • You have knowledge of rehabilitative case management theories/practices, programming, treatment and relationship custody approaches, group work principles and techniques, and facilitation skills.
    • You are able to manage emergency medical crises and security breach situations, and resolve emergency situations.
    • You are able to deliver programs within a secure custody/detention facility in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, ministry/divisional operational policies and procedures.

    Planning and Analytical Skills:




    • You are able to analyze information in order to provide appropriate documentation of incidents and to respond to inquiries from within and outside the ministry.
    • You have experience providing input and technical expertise on identified and emerging program issues, trends and matters.
    • You are able to develop protocols and operational processes to streamline operations and comply with legislation, regulations and policies.
    • You are able to assess facility environment and determine the appropriate use of intervention techniques and/or required restraint equipment.
    • You have experience implementing strategies and diffusion techniques in stressful and emergency situations.

    Communication and Interpersonal Skills:




    • You are able to interpret and verify legal admissions, discharge, transfer documentation.
    • You are able to respond to claims and inquiries and provide information on treatment/programming/security issues.
    • You have experience writing a variety of reports and communicating effectively with police, crown, investigators, families of youth, general public, and facilities staff.
