    Your Opportunity

    The Research Associate (Limited Term) will perform research on recent developments in the field of Canadian animal law and policy (as well as relevant items in environmental law and food law) in order to further the development of the field of animal law and policy at the University of Toronto. This position will provide an opportunity for motivated candidates to hone their research and writing skills by identifying and creating twice a month summaries of developments in the field of Canadian animal law and policy for the in collaboration with the Brooks Institute for Animal Rights, Law & Policy, the funder of this position. The Associate will also work in cooperation with staff at the Bora Laskin Law Library to keep the up to date and assist with other animal-law and policy related projects.

    The Research Associate (Limited Term) Term is anticipated to commence on October 1, 2024.

    MAJOR ACTIVITES:

  • Identifying and creating twice a month summaries of developments in the field of Canadian animal law and policy for the Brooks Animal Law Digest
  • Conducting research on Canadian animal law and policy
  • Collaborating on the writing of research papers on animal law and policy
  • Coordinating research activities, including organizing team meetings, preparing progress reports and communicating with the research team members and partners

    • QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    EDUCATION:

  • JD or LLB degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one (1) year of directly related experience conducting research in the field of Canadian animal law and policy.
  • Demonstrated research skills, preferably in legal research.
  • Experience in project management or administrative work related to academic research.

    • SKILLS:

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    • OTHER:

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Proven ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in decision making.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
