Lead Organizations
The South Markham Community Action Table is co-led by Agincourt Community Services Association (ACSA) and Social Services Network (SSN). ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. Social Services Network (SSN) delivers programs and services to older adults and seniors.

As a not-for-profit organization, SSN's objective is to create an inclusive society where the dignity of our aging population is maintained through promotion of independence, social inclusion, and volunteerism.

The position will be hired through ACSA, as ACSA is the current contract holder.


Summary of Job Functions


We are seeking a dynamic and proactive individual to assist the work and initiatives of the South-Central Markham Community Action Table (SMCAT).

CATs are community-driven, collaborative tables that will inform the Community Safety and Well-Being plan for York region.

CATs are comprised of a broad range of stakeholders that focus on local engagement to address Mental Health and Mental Well-Being and Housing Stability in South-Central Markham.

The project assistant will be mainly responsible for supporting the CAT Coordinator with administrative and communications duties, while providing additional presence and support at events and meetings.


Duties include

  • Work closely with the Project Coordinator to support South Markham Community Action Table meetings, events, initiatives and progress to maximize productivity
  • Organize and monitor schedules, meetings and events
  • Support minutetaking and communications to the SMCAT where appropriate
  • Supporting content creation and communications on social media
  • Support the recordkeeping, tracking and administrative duties for the South Markham CAT Coordinator
  • Report updates and progress verbally and in written form
  • Support transition and collaboration between South Markham Community Action Table initiatives and Quick Action Grants initiatives
  • Collaborate with the entire South Markham Community Action Table team to contribute to the different events and initiatives when necessary
  • Attend events and meetings in lieu of South Markham CAT Coordinator when necessary/appropriate

Additional Duties

  • Must be available for some evening and weekend work, as required
  • Other duties as identified by ACSA, Social Services Network and SMCAT
  • Protects own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately. Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience and/or education in project management, community development or administration or related fields
  • Experience working at a grassroots level in a community and conducting on the ground engagement
  • Experience working with agencies and residents in York Region, the South Markham area in particular, is an asset
  • Experience in a community planning process that has brought residents and agencies together
  • Experience in social media campaigning and using social media as a community organizing tool
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Is able to work using online platforms (I.e. Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, Zoom) for remote engagement with key stakeholders of the project
  • An understanding of working collaboratively and building partnerships with community
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with diverse populations
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Available to work occasional weeknights and weekends
  • Must be comfortable in a mobile position that will work from multiple locations and in the community
  • Must provide a vulnerable sector check
  • Has access to own laptop or computer
  • Must have reliable internet connection for frequent online work
  • Speaking a second language (i.e. Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil) is an asset
