    Job Summary:

    Reporting to the EVP, Legal, the Director, Legal & General Counsel plays a pivotal role in managing the legal and compliance team. This position involves offering strategic legal advice to the executive team and ensuring the company's operations are in alignment with relevant laws and regulations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage legal and compliance team, aligning tasks with strategic goals.
    • Provide strategic legal advice to support LGM's strategic initiatives.
    • Offer legal support for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic transactions.
    • Engage with insurer legal and compliance teams.
    • Oversee legal, compliance, and reporting tasks.
    • Lead negotiations and strategies with OEMs and insurers.
    • Develop SOP for dealer quality assurance program.
    • Address regulatory and privacy legislative changes.
    • Supervise implementation of legal/compliance advice for new products and processes.
    • Manage corporate insurance renewal and staff licensing.
    • Handle submissions in response to regulatory inquiries.
    • Support employee relations and financing arrangements.
    • Manage intellectual property and litigation matters.
    • Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies.
    • Investigate compliances for the OmbudService.
    • Monitor external counsel and litigation matters.
    • Maintain corporate insurance portfolio.
    • Offer timely legal advice to enhance business operations.

    Required Skills:

    Education:

    • LL.B. or Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
    • Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
    • Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
    • General and Life Insurance Licensing highly valued.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of eight (8) years of legal practice.
    • Focus on corporate, commercial, financial services, and insurance law.
    • Proven track record of offering strategic legal advice.
    • M&A experience is an asset.
    • Strong knowledge of corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
