  • As a Natural & Human History Interpreter at John Walter Museum, Muttart Conservatory and the John Janzen Nature Centre you will inspire, motivate and connect guests to Edmonton's history, local plants & animals, and exotic plants from around the world._

  • Facilitate and assist in developing a variety of educational programs including school and group programs, day camps, birthday parties, and registered programs.
  • Deliver dropin programs for the general public which consist of roving, guided hikes/tours, large group presentations, leading short and theatrical presentations
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public with engage with, including parents/guardians, teachers, participants and group leaders
  • Oversee volunteers during programming
  • Assist in the maintenance of artifacts, exhibits and program supplies
  • Set up and take down program activities and events
  • Independently research program elements and complete administrative tasks
  • Work at the John Janzen Nature Centre, Muttart Conservatory, and John Walter Museum based on facility needs
  • Conduct other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalent
  • Current registration in or completed postsecondary degree or diploma in Education, Biological or Environmental Sciences, Drama, History, Recreation and Leisure Studies or a related field considered as an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local natural history and/or human history
  • Some experience developing and delivering educational content such as leading activities or games with the general public, tour groups, and children
  • Highly developed verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt presentations to diverse audiences
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings as required
  • Ability to attend staff training November 13th17th

Asset:


  • Experience working in a natural history park, botanical garden, museum, zoo or other interpretive facility
  • Ability to converse in a second language
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence or provincial equivalent and access to a vehicle

_ Up to 25 temporary part-time ongoing positions_

Hours of Work:
Up to 39 hours per week; shifts varying from 3 to 8 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. Ability to work holidays, evenings and overnights, as required.

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
