Position S
ummary:
Under general direction of the NSSRC Operations Manager, this role will plan and organize daily maintenance tasks and assist in overseeing the work of the NSSRC team year-round.
This includes directing and monitoring staff through all maintenance activities pertaining to the NSSRC and its property as well as engaging in all maintenance activities as this is a working Lead Hand position.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership
- Oversee NSSRC staff (fulltime, temporary and students) through monitoring, directing, mentoring, training and leading in the absence of the NSSRC Operations Manager.
Customer Service
- Respond to public inquiries by providing information within the scope of knowledge and position.
Administration:
- Ensure work records describing tasks and equipment and labour are prepared; and time sheets entered into ADP and validated.

Operations
- Assist management with ensuring infrastructure is in good order and appropriate service levels are delivered.
Health & Safety
- Enforcement of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- In the absence of the NSSRC Operations Manager, oversee the daily operations of the NSSRC.
Facility Maintenance
- Assign equipment and personnel as required for snow removal for all sidewalks and laneways.
- Assign janitorial duties/maintenance duties including but not limited to cleaning floors, walls, showers, change rooms, washrooms, fixtures, arena stands, dressing rooms, gymnasium floors, change rooms.
- Ensure the facility is open and closed at the scheduled times, including outdoor facilities where seasonally operated.
- Assign staff to perform ice resurfacing, ice depth checks, ice edging and chipping as well as making ice when required.
- Assign staff to perform set up change overs as required and all associated cleaning for all functions.
- Train and monitor staff performance reporting any issues to the NSSRC Operations Manager.
- Call in contractors for necessary repairs i.e., HVAC, electrical or refrigeration plant.
- Operate various equipment and directly carry out maintenance operations.
- Maintain proper maintenance and inspection documentation for all equipment.
- Conduct inspections of facility and callin staff as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Postsecondary diploma or certification in recreation facility management, parks and recreation, or related field
or **8 years progressive experience in Recreation Facility operations. - Must hold a valid "G" driver's license.
- WHMIS training and knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Basic Refrigeration certificate (ORFA).
- Advanced Refrigeration Facility Operator (ORFA).
- Ice Making and Painting Technologies (ORFA).
- Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operations (ORFA).
- Certified Ice Technician (ORFA) designation an asset.
- Legal Awareness 1 Supervising in a Recreation Environment (ORFA) an asset.
- Legal Awareness 2 Managing in a Recreation Environment (ORFA) an asset.
- Safe Arena Refrigeration Plant Owner / Operator (ORFA) an asset.
- Recreation Facility Environmental Systems (HVAC / R) ORFA an asset.
- Conscientious with a positive attitude and manner to serve and deal with the public effectively.
- General aptitude and proficiencies in operating ice resurfacers and mechanized equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills including welldeveloped interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to communicate both verbally and in written form.
- Must possess administrative, numerical and research skills to complete paperwork, estimates and ensure quality standards.
- Demonstrate effective organizational and leadership skills as well as technical, analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Working knowledge of computer programs including ADP, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently with mínimal supervision.
Effort/Physical Demands:
- Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent sitting, standing, and driving.
- Regular use of computer and related software.
Working Conditions:
- Work in extreme outside / inside conditions (heat/cold).
- Frequently work near moving mechanical equipment and parts.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and special events.
- Required to respond to and/or report to work during emergencies after hours.
