The Fleet Technician (Emergency Vehicle) is primarily responsible for performing skilled tasks in all aspects of work related to the maintenance and repair of emergency (fire) vehicles.

Additional duties and tasks include performing skilled tasks in all aspects of work related to the maintenance and repair of all vehicles, heavy equipment, power equipment, and any other equipment necessary in the Town's fleet.


How you contribute to our organization:

  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on all emergency (fire) vehicles.
  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and heavy equipment in the Town's fleet including, but not limited to snowplows, backhoes, graders, loaders, automobiles, dump trucks, pickup trucks, street sweepers, sidewalk machines, combination sewer trucks, mowers, small equipment and ice resurfacers.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance inspections and services to reduce department equipment down time and minimize wear on vehicles and equipment and inform the Supervisor of any major deficiencies.
  • Perform annual periodic mandatory commercial vehicle inspections (PMCVIs) as per the Ministry of Transportation Motor Vehicle Inspection Station Guidelines.
  • Inform the Supervisor of parts inventory to maintain adequate stock to complete necessary maintenance.
  • Operate various diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electronic, drive train and engine problems (such as laptop computers, scan tools and multimeters).
  • Perform service and emergency calls, repairing vehicles or equipment in the field as required.
  • Provide input for tender specifications for the purchase of new and replacement fleet inventory.
  • Create and maintain accurate records of vehicle and equipment maintenance in accordance with provincial standards.

What you bring to the team:

  • Requires successful completion of high school diploma and possession of a Truck and Coach Technician License (310T) and an Automotive Technician License (310S) in good standing with the Ontario College of Trades.
  • Requires a DZ licence, and ability to submit a clean driver's abstract upon hire.
  • Requires successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Technician training courses.
  • Requires valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Requires 34 years of experience as a Truck and Coach Technician performing service, repair, and maintenance on a variety of vehicles, with an emphasis on emergency vehicles.
  • Must have good understanding of fleet operations regarding repair requirements, scheduling and maintaining an operating fleet.
  • Must be able to provide own tools.
  • Must be available to work in a rotational oncall schedule.

Salary:
$72, $90,500.80, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan

Hours: 40 hours per week, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, plus rotational on-call schedule
