Description
The Town of Milton is currently recruiting for two Economic Development Co-op students.

Reporting to the Manager, Economic Development, this role is responsible for providing support to core economic development activities relating to innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives as laid out in Milton's Economic Development Strategy.

This position will also support the Economic Development Division's on-going programming including business retention, expansion and attraction through tasks such as research and data analysis.


The Co-op will also participate in other aspects of economic development activities, innovation support services, CRM data input, departmental meetings and events, as needed.


Major Job Responsibilities
***Innovation Services and Project Support

  • Researches and develops targeted sector ecosystem mapping in alignment with Milton's economic development strategy
  • Assists in the creation of a digital soft landing program for local and foreign companies within Milton's key sectors
  • Provides customer service and supports new lead intake through digital soft landing program, tracking and reporting results
Data Analysis

  • Documents interactions and results of business support activities within Milton's Salesforce CRM platform
  • Uses CRM data to monitors trends, customer requests and satisfaction levels and recommends modifications as necessary
Research & Reporting

  • Performs proactive analysis on demographic, economic, building permit, investment and development data for internal use, responding to investment inquires, and reporting to Council
  • Researches initiatives and support the implementation of the department's economic development strategy
  • Monitors and reports on departmental key performance indicators
  • Liaises with stakeholders to gather information on ICI real estate and development activity
Marketing & Communications Support

  • Supports the development of content for use via Economic Development marketing materials, social media channels and the Towns website

Education and Experience

  • Postsecondary undergraduate degree/diploma in Economic Development, Urban and Rural Planning, Marketing, Business, Economics or related discipline
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program in any of the above disciplines is considered an asset
  • EDAC designation in progress or completed is preferred
  • Experience related to economic development, business services, writing, research and marketing is considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational, time management, records management, research and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in community and economic development principles and strategies
  • An understanding of Economic Development principles, the knowledgebased economy and the requirements for the development of a strong innovation ecosystem is preferred
  • Understanding of land development process, land use planning and municipal processes is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of project coordination is preferred
**Hourly Rate: $18.08
