Description
The Manager of Facility Operations and Maintenance is currently seeking two Full Time Groundskeeper. The purpose of the position is to perform grounds keeping functions on approximately 110 acres. The groundskeeper performs year-round maintenance of all Regional roads, walkways and building entrances.


Please note:

hours and shifts of work can vary based on operational needs and weather conditions.


Key Accountabilities:


Grounds keeping:


  • Using regular push lawn mowers and tractors with mower deck, mows, rolls, aerates and fertilizes lawns
  • Removes leaves and debris such as twigs from lawns in spring and fall with use of hand rakes and power tools
  • Performs landscaping using various landscape materials such as patio stones, nursery shrubs and plants
  • Plants seedlings and new flowers in flower beds and planters, transplants trees and shrubs, prunes existing trees and shrubs
  • Designs and prepares flower bed layouts, and maintains floral beds including weeding, watering and cultivating flowers and nursery stock.
  • Prepares and maintains outdoors sports fields
  • Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures and legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc. ) and potential risk hazards, and in particular, "duties of the worker" as defined in Section 28 of the OH&S Act.

Winter Maintenance:


  • Operates loaders with large snow removal blades
  • Operates large dump truck with sander/salt on all roadways and parking lots.
  • With hand shovels and/or snow blower, removes snow from all walkways and building entrances/exits
  • Erects snow fences where/when required
  • Almost all work is performed outdoors. Scheduling work activities is very often determined by weather conditions
  • During inclement weather, incumbents are required to work varied hours an shifts as snow removal is a priority
    Equipment Maintenance:
  • Checks all fluid levels and safety equipment on power equipment
  • Completes routine preventative maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment such as checking tires, radiators, air breathers, chains, belts, etc.

Requirements/Qualifications:


  • DZ driver's license
  • Satisfactory Driver's Abstract/Record
  • Recent and related experience in a similar groundskeeper role
  • Demonstrated experience with safe operation of landscaping equipment such as tractors, chainsaws, and snow blowers
  • Demonstrated experience with the safe operation of large dump trucks and loaders
  • Demonstrated experience with horticulture such as planting, nurturing and maintaining flowers, plants, shrubs, and gardens
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
