Job Purpose

:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide technical support for research projects aimed at enhancing the standard of care for patients undergoing fertility treatment.

This includes research on the molecular evaluation of human tissues from IVF procedures, uterine receptivity, and IVF waste material, along with the maintenance of our research reporting systems, equipment, and facilities.


Duties and Responsibilities

:


General Responsibilities as a researcher:

  • Adherence to ethical and safe research conduct practices in accordance with the Assisted Human Reproduction Act (Section 8), the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS2): Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans, CReATe Fertility Centre Policies, and Standard Operating Procedures, along with other research departmentspecific guidelines and training.
  • Active contribution to patient safety monitoring and improvement, as relevant to the duties and responsibilities of this role.
  • Compliance with instructions from administrative and research training, reviewing safety and technical SOPs and MSDSs before initiating any projects or experiments.
  • Maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Integration of new technological advances and knowledge into experimental planning, and distribution of accurate knowledge and training to team members and collaborators.
  • Efficient execution of experiments, ensuring optimal use of resources (time, money, and patient samples) and mínimal waste.
  • Active contribution to a pleasant, professional, and safe workplace environment. This includes keeping common and personal workspaces tidy, disinfected, and wellstocked.
  • Notification to supervisor of required time off in advance. This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Accurate recording of all research work hours in the electronic research activity log database for "Scientific Research & Experimental Development" (SR&ED) documentation.
  • Provision of complete, accurate, and detailed reports on all experimental protocols, procedures, and results on a daily basis using the notebook and Labguru. All research materials and knowledge gained at CReATe are property of CReATe. Monthly backups of all electronic records/files on the create server or external harddrive are expected.
  • Preparation for both internal and external meetings while maintaining professional conduct that aligns with CReATe Fertility Centre core values, when representing our research group at local, national, or international meetings, and disseminating knowledge gained.

Embryology project-specific tasks

:


  • Execution of assigned embryology experiments under the supervision of Stewart Russell. This includes patient chart review, collection and processing of culture media, embryo, sperm, and endometrial tissue samples, molecular analyses, compilation of results, and statistical analysis.
  • Provision of technical training and support to undergraduate and graduate students in the embryology research group based on availability.
  • Participation in knowledge dissemination (research meetings, conference presentation) and manuscript preparation.
    Monthly completion of Embryology Group Order Reconciliation.

  • Regular updates and compilation of Standard experimental protocol on Labguru.
  • Maintenance and monitoring of project antibody inventory, all media, PBS, tissue culture supplies for assigned project, Embryology fridge and freezers space, and organization and cleanup initiatives.

Other Duties specific to this position

:


  • Daily quality control checks and cleaning of the molecular bay benches, hoods, and equipment.
    Monitoring and maintaining cleanliness and organization of molecular biology area. Daily lab disinfection (on rotation with other lab members).
    Quarterly monitoring of all sample collection log and inventory spreadsheet/organization/Labguru. Weekly monitoring of all qPCR and NGS (when applicable) reagent inventory and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

:


  • MSc in Biology/Biochemistry/Biomedical science or equivalent with significant experience in wet lab environments.
    Proficiency in molecular biology with experience in qRTPCR, Westerns, cell culture, immunofluorescence, IHC, RNA/DNA sequencing. Proficiency in basic statistics.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with safe handling of biohazardous materials and chemicals.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Working Conditions

:

Class II research laboratory and office setting.

This position is mainly Monday to Friday with the occasional weekend.


Physical Requirements

:

The role may require some heavy lifting. Long sitting periods at the tissue culture hood, workbench, or computer are required daily. May need to work long hours or weekends ad hoc depending on the experimental time course.
