Reuse Centre Operator (Permanent Full-Time)


The Reuse Centre Operator will join the Communications and Enforcement Team to manage and oversee the operation of The Last Resort Reuse Centre reporting directly to the Communications Manager.

The Reuse Centre Operator will, through education and demonstration, showcase the value of a circular economy.

The key functions of this dynamic and challenging position are as follow:

Health and Safety - becomes familiar with and adheres to all aspects of the occupational health and safety system.

Collection of Reusable Items and Materials: works closely with management centre and applicable administration office team members to monitor incoming loads of waste for potentially reusable items and materials and ensures items are taken to the assigned location at the management centre sites for assessment and preparation for display and sale in The Last Resort Reuse Centre.

The Last Resort Reuse Centre Preparation: prepares The Last Resort Reuse Centre for retail activity in consultation with other team members to include, store layout, shelving, tables, cash management, etc.

Customer Service: When preparing items for display and operating the Reuse Centre, checks recovered items for sale suitability, ensures items are clean and presentable, prices items and materials for sale, operates The Last Resort shop when it is open, ensures that The Last Resort shop is tidy, safe and clean at all times to include during facility tours.

Handling Cash, Tracking Sales and Keeping Records: Manages the cash float, handles cash in customer purchases, tracks and accounts for cash daily as directed by the Communications Manager. Provides data to facilitate the evaluation of The Last Resort shop.

Other:May be asked to perform other duties at the management centres and administration office as required.


The successful incumbent will have:


  • Minimum Grade 12 Education
  • Willingness to work "hands on" with incoming wasteresource materials and ability to do physically demanding work.
  • Customer service experience and the ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
  • A strong interest in environmental issues and waste diversion
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Willing to work Saturday morning
  • Trustworthiness and the ability to the bonded
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as a fork lift would be an asset.
