Seasonal Worker/Labourer
A "Management Centre" is a public solid waste transfer station. The Seasonal Worker/Labourer reports to the Site Supervisor of the Management Centre. The Seasonal Worker/Labourer should be prepared to perform all functions of the job on a daily basis.


The key functions of the position are:


  • Treat public courteously at all times
  • Direct incoming vehicles to the tipping floor and/or public drop off area
  • Ensure adequate signage and traffic control devices are in place
  • Becoming familiar with all policies governing operations and ensuring only acceptable wastes are permitted at the site segregating banned and salvageable materials advising site users of alternate locations or methods for disposal of nonacceptable items
  • Assist in Household Hazardous Waste Depot Operations
  • Perform maintenance duties on grounds and site buildings including repairs, cleaning, painting, etc., ensuring that area around building and tipping floor are operated in a clean and safe manner including regular collection of litter
  • Operating and maintain CFC removal equipment
  • Operate mobile and other equipment associated with site operations in a safe manner reporting any mechanical problems to the Site Supervisor or Lead Hand in his/her absence
  • Become competent as required in the operation of the weigh scale, including related record keeping
  • Perform general maintenance of equipment
  • May be required to work overtime periodically and other duties may be assigned from time to time

The successful incumbent will have:


  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience in municipal solid waste operations and/or any other applicable qualifications;
  • Related experience in solid waste operations would be an asset;
  • Proven experience in the operation of heavy equipment
  • Proven computer experience or willingness to work in a computerized environment would be considered to be an asset
  • Proven ability to work in a courteous manner with the public;
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License
  • Class 3 with Air Endorsement preferred but not required.


This is a Seasonal position (April-October) with a starting hourly rate of $20.08 with the potential for annual return or eventual permanent employment.
