The Opportunity:


Waste and Recycling provides residents with options for managing their residential/household waste through services and education, considering environmental, social and economic impacts.

Waste and Recycling Services endeavors to position Airdrie as a municipal leader in environmental stewardship. The Airdrie Recycle depot is a public service location. Customer Service is the number one priority.


Primary accountabilities include:


  • Provide a high level of customer service through timely and knowledgeable responses to ensure proper collection, sorting and shipment of materials
  • Assist residents as required by:
  • directing traffic flow as required
- greeting/educating residents on the depot site and items accepted
- physically assist residents, bringing material to the appropriate collection areas (wearing appropriate PPE)
- offering alternative options for items not accepted

  • Work in accordance with established Safe Work Procedures
  • Conduct/participate in daily/weekly/monthly inspections
  • Ensure material is consistently managed and prepared by:
  • Managing volumes to ensure residents have consistent access for depositing material
  • Maximizing shipping volumes
  • Inventory counts as required
  • Ensuring material is contaminant free
  • Sorting material to its proper location
  • Maintaining a clean worksite by sweeping, shoveling, litter picking etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assemble, deliver and repair curbside carts as required
  • Assist Operations Coordinator/Team Leader as required

You Bring:


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence
  • Experience in municipal waste and recycling is an asset
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Additional Information:

This is a casual/on call position and workdays are Wednesday to Sunday, between 9 am and 5 pm.

CSA Approved Safety Shoes are required. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
