    Youth Leader (Summer Employment)

    (Temporary Part-Time for approximately 3 months)

    As the largest municipality in Waterloo Region, Kitchener continues to be poised for development and growth, enhancing its reputation as a leader in city-building and innovation, with nationally recognized strategies to build its neighbourhoods, its digital infrastructure and its diverse economy.

    We are looking for positive and energetic role models to help lead our weekly youth programs this summer.


    As part of our City of Kitchener Youth Services team, you will work with your team lead and fellow leaders to organize and implement nightly activities for youth in a fun and relaxed environment.


    Youth Leaders at community centre sites will deliver indoor recreational programming such as sports, art and crafts, and games for youth ages Youth Leaders with Doon Skatium will help deliver a variety of outdoor skatepark activities for children and youth ages 8-17.

    Real experience working with youth ages 12-17
    Program planning skills
    An amazing summer experience
    Experience working with youth 12-17 years old
    Passionate and motivated to provide positive recreation and leisure opportunities for youth
    Ready for a leadership role in planning and delivering youth programs
    Good relationship-building, communication and problem-solving skills
    No work scheduled on June 27 and 28 and on statutory holidays (July 1 and August 5).


    Training dates:

    Please Note:
    ALL training in-person and online is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of program/camp.

    Hours of work: 6:00pm-10:00pm, Monday-Friday
    ~ The Doon Skatium program is an outdoor program. Assist your team lead in the planning of creative and engaging programs, activities, and special events
    Promote inclusion and belonging by seeking youth input on program ideas and ensuring the safe engagement of all participants
    Bring your energy and enthusiasm daily to deliver creative and engaging youth programming

    Actively participate in the delivery of program plans, leading various youth activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games, etc.

    Centre-based youth leaders will be assigned to one site. Doon Skatium mobile skatepark leaders will deliver mobile skatepark program at various sites across the city.
    Positively support youth in their efforts to try new activities, develop new skills
    Role-model positive behavior for youth (teamwork, responsibility, initiative, and sportsmanship)
    Assist youth participants to work together to resolve problems and conflicts
    Proudly represent the City of Kitchener by providing quality programming and customer service
    Minimum age requirement - must be at least 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified
