Interior Community Services - Merritt is looking to fill the temporary part-time position of Community Support Worker in the Merritt Mosaic Day Program. The duration is 6 months, or upon return of the incumbent.


This position will work within the
Merritt Mosaic Day Program supporting adults with diverse abilities in their daily life skills including physical, vocational, recreational, social, and emotional development.

Assists participants/clients to connect with the community and to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

Must be able to perform personal care.


REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Community and School Support certificate and recent related experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities. Or a combination of education, training and experience
  • Current CPR-C
  • MANDT, Safe Food Handling and Medication Management training are provided.

Full Covid Vaccination is required.

Class 5 Driver's license and safe driving record (abstract) is required.
Ability to obtain Class 4 unrestricted DL (reimbursed by employer)


- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:


  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and support individuals with physical and developmental disabilities
  • Strong experience providing life skills support and development
  • Strong ability to assist individuals with feeding, grooming, and personal care
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a strong member of a team
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive
  • Knowledge and ability in seizure management
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, coworkers and supervisors
  • Strong ability to recognize, analyze and deal effectively with behaviours and crisis situations using appropriate interventions
  • Ability to do physical requirements of the job supporting individuals in wheel chairs, walkers etc using lifts, transfers, pushing, pulling, bending
  • Strong ability to act professionally, problem solve and make ethical decision
  • OTHER: This position is
    30 hours/week and qualifies for employer paid group benefits after 3 months, for the duration of the position.

The expected duration is 6 months, or upon return of the incumbent.
Pay rate is $ $25.19 per hour as per the Collective Agreement.


Salary:
$21.63 per hour
