Payroll Specialist - Remote, Canada - Debbie Mastel & Associates

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with all government regulations for the company's operations within Canada & the US.
In addition, this role assists with the transition and automation of payroll services into the company's current and future payroll software and ERP system for Canada.
This is a work from home full time permanent opportunity.Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, calculate and process earnings, deductions, pay adjustments, retroactive pays for bimonthly payroll
- Review and confirm employee timesheets (for hourly field employees) to ensure accuracy
- Enter employee data, including new hires, terminations, employment changes, intercompany transfers, and changes to pay rates
- Process employee terminations, ensuring termination dates and reason for termination is entered accurately in the payroll system. Preparing ROE and submitting to Service Canada
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local and provincial payroll, wage and hour laws, regulations and best practices
- Respond to State and Provincial notices for current and past employee wage requests
- Review and ensure accuracy of approved advances, travel and potential overtime claims
- Implement, maintain, and review the company's payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software and procedures
- Maintain proper documentation and clean files to facilitate payroll audits as required by external auditors and management
- Gain an understanding of company polices, procedures and other compliance changes with pay laws
- Foster communication and compliance between various departments of the company to ensure compliance and accuracy of payroll administration
- Work closely with Finance for accurate internal and external recording and reporting of all payroll information
- Investigate, problem solve and respond to internal and external payroll queries in a timely manner while providing a high level of customer service
- Take reasonable care to protect his/her health and safety and that of other workers by following safety policies & procedures, as well as government and industry regulations
Requirements:
- 510 years of related payroll experience required within oilfield services, transportation/trucking or the staffing & recruitment industry
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) Certification, a requirement
- Knowledge of payroll functions including benefits and payroll taxes
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Canadian Payroll processing experience is required. Experience processing payroll within US is preferred
- Strong analytical, problemsolving and customer service skills
- Ability to work well under pressure in a deadlinedriven environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Salary:
$65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
