    Family Outreach Worker – Family Outreach & Response/Community Treatment Order Programs (Full-Time Permanent) The Role and Opportunity

    The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for a Family Outreach Worker for our Family Outreach & Response (FOR) Program. This role is embedded on the East Community Treatment Order (CTO) Program and will work onsite at the Scarborough Health Network. The Family Worker will provide recovery oriented mental health support services including education, support, service navigation and advocacy to families of people experiencing mental health challenges.

    Salary: $54,124 – $62,733

    Hours of Work: 35 per week

    Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Program Manager, the Family Outreach Worker will be required to participate in team meetings and provide regular updates to managers. They will collaborate with their program to enhance capacity to deliver family-centered care. They will work collaboratively with team members to provide support to clients and their families.

    The primary aim of the Family Outreach Worker will be to provide education and supportive counselling to families from a trauma-informed and recovery framework. They will help families understand the mental health system in a greater social context, and will enhance families' skills and abilities to have a voice in the mental health system. The Family Outreach Worker will collaborate with other agency family workers to facilitate recovery education and skills-based groups/workshops for families, and will assist in the development of groups/workshops. They will take part in a regular Family Work Community of Practice within the agency.

    The Family Outreach Worker will also develop, implement and monitor the service plan and conduct follow-ups with clients as needed. They will complete required documentation pertaining to clients and the program in a timely manner.

    Experience & Education Required

    CMHA Toronto's ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree or diploma in social services or related field. The candidate will bring a minimum of three (3) years' experience in community mental health, including experience providing support to families. The candidate will have experience in group/workshop development and facilitation. Knowledge/training in either DBT, CBT or EFFT will be considered an asset. Personal or family lived experience of mental health challenges is considered a strong asset.

    The Candidate will have a sound knowledge of mental health legislation, community supports and resources, experience in crisis intervention/prevention, and the ability to address safety from a recovery oriented and family-centered lens.

    The candidate will bring strong advocacy skills and the ability to coach families to acquire these skills. They will also have experience working from an anti-discrimination, anti-oppression and trauma-informed perspective, and have the ability work to with diverse communities. The candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, and have the ability to work independently.

    The role does require the ability to work flexible hours with some mandatory evening work.

    The candidate will also be required to have a valid Ontario Driver's License, access to a vehicle and insurance coverage.
