$ $30.69 per hour (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)


VACANCIES:

hours per week - Tue., Wed., Thu. - 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
hours per week - Fri. and Sat. - 4:00 PM-12:00 AM

ABOUT the JOB:

The Adult Living Support Worker provides care to an adult with moderate to severe behavioral and developmental challenges, including individuals with Autism, in a home setting


The main responsibilities include:

  • Responds effectively to the client's daytoday needs
  • Carries out the behavioral plan created for the individual by their care team
  • Administers medications as per the agency policy and procedures
  • Follow seizure protocols when necessary
  • Provides personal care and hygiene
  • Connects the individual with community resources and supports them in accessing those
  • Builds on the capabilities of the individual using a strengthsbased approach
  • Accompanies on outings, appointments, and recreational activities
  • Shops, cooks, cleans and does general maintenance of the home and the yard

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:


  • Diploma in Human or Social Service or other related field
  • 1year recent experience with individuals with moderate to severe behavioural and developmental challenges
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:


Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the individual, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
  • Work effectively with individuals on the Autism spectrum
  • Provide life skills support and development in the home and community
  • Practice appropriate behaviour management intervention by following behavioural/care plans of the individuals
  • Teach coping techniques, emotional regulation, and adaptive behaviour to clients
  • Recognize and deal effectively with aggressive behaviours and crisis situations using appropriate interventions
  • Liaise and communicate between clients and members of their care team
  • Advocate for the best interests of the individuals
  • Support clients in gaining independence
  • Adhere to the health and safety protocols and procedures
  • Develop and implement clientfocused schedules, plans, and goalsetting methods
  • Manage conflict effectively
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Run and maintain a home, including shopping, cleaning, yard work, cooking, budgeting, and meal planning
  • Cook healthy, nutritional meals
  • Assess the personal safety of staff and client(s) and respond appropriately to crisis situations
  • Work effectively independently and as a strong member of a team

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license and safe driving record
  • Access to reliable transportation to report to the scheduled shifts on time. Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Complete set of Covid19 vaccinations (minimum two doses)
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care, and recreational activities indoors and outdoors.
  • This job requires union membership.
