ummary:


  • The Labourer
  • NSSRC will report directly to the NSSRC Operations Manager and will be responsible for various maintenance and customer service duties with the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre (NSSRC). This includes performing general building maintenance and repair at the NSSRC by providing cleaning and janitorial services, expediting set up requirements for facility bookings, garbage/debris pick up, repairing and reporting vandalism, walkway sweeping/snow removal, monitoring and checking refrigeration, operating ice resurfacing machine on occasion if required, and other various associated duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Performs janitorial/maintenance duties at the NSSRC including but not limited to; cleaning floors, walls, showers, change rooms, washrooms, fixtures, arena stands and/or other building amenities; walkway sweeping/snow removal, and replenishing consumable supplies as required.
  • Assists with and/or expedites setup amenities required for facility bookings, including liaising with facility renters/users as required; and cleans up after same.
  • Assists with replacing kickboards, as well as glass and rails on rink boards.


  • Supports Operations Technicians

  • NSSRC with ice and facility maintenance and inspections where required; operates ice maintenance equipment; assists with annual ice removal and replacement including installation and painting ice surface.
  • Ensures the facility is open and closed at the scheduled times, including outdoor facilities where seasonally operated.
  • Responsible for the security of the building; ensures that all policies and procedures are being followed by patrons.
  • Responds to enquiries from the public and staff; investigates problems/complaints as directed and resolves/refers as appropriate if Operations Technician
  • NSSRC or Manager is not available.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Requires a secondary school diploma or equivalent and valid class G driver's license.
  • Experience and knowledge of recreational building maintenance and operations.
  • Experience with Arena Recreation Facilities is an asset.
  • Ability to achieve Certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Defibrillator, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in and working knowledge of building maintenance/janitorial services including ability to learn and train with arena ice flooding operations.
  • Ability to operate ice flooding machine or capacity and willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, record keeping and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the general public, facility users, and staff.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, as scheduled, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Effort/Physical Demands:


  • Physical demand requires potentially long periods of standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, driving, or lifting.
  • Frequent lifting, push/pull and/or moving up to 35 pounds.
  • Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

Working Conditions:


  • Normal work environment is the NSSRC in hot and cold temperatures.
  • Shift work is required (7 day per week operation, including holidays).
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions may be required.
  • May be required to work on an oncall basis.
