  • Position Overview:
  • The primary role of the Service Coordinator for the Elder Mediation Services Program is to walk alongside older adults, their families and support people to implement strategies to effectively manage conflict. The program currently has a variety of ways to engage community, including dialogue assistance, comentorship, groups in older adult rent geared to income buildings, presentations, training and supporting community members who volunteer their time, and participating in community committees.
  • Participants in this program are referred through a variety of community services, criminal courts, and selfreferred.
  • Key Roles and Responsibilities can include:
  • Oversee and implement services
  • Support and train community members who volunteer their time
  • Provide accurate program statistics
  • Work closely with team members
  • Model restorative justice values
  • Develop and nurture working relationships with community partners
  • Attend team meetings and CJI staff meetings
  • Promote the use of restorative justice as an effective way to address the harm, conflict and crime
  • Continue to develop an understanding of restorative justice values and practices
  • Connect with the wider CJI team
  • Attend meetings, events and trainings as possible
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of how restorative justice is practiced in Waterloo Region
  • Miscellaneous duties as needed and discussed together

Skills:


  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree in Social Services, Peace and Conflict Studies, or experiential equivalent
  • Indepth understanding of Restorative Justice philosophy and principles
  • Training in transformative mediation, family mediation, and conflict resolution an asset
  • Experience with intake, assessment, case management, and documentation
  • Experience with older adult population
  • Volunteer engagement experience an asset
  • Experience with traumainformed, intersectional approach to support participants
  • Commitment to an antioppressive/antiracist and decolonized approaches
  • Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to exercise selfcare
  • Solid time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings as needed
  • Police Reference Check (including vulnerable sector) will be required
