Project: Digitally Optimized Assets -DOA (CAD$ 200M) 

Scope of Work involved the deployment of digital analytics tools and sensors in 9 complex projects across Suncor assets to maximize production, optimize Maintenance, Reliability, and Safety to shift from reactive to proactive maintenance. 

My Role: Leading the implementation of Project Controls Systems to run portfolio dashboards including risks, changes, status updates, milestones, progress measurement and real-time views of cash-flow and Cost performance. 

 

Senior Planning & Cost Specialist

My work had contributed to a 12% budget reduction by de-risking the projects and guided leadership making informed decisions through:

  • Managed all aspects of Portfolio delivery, including costs, schedule, cash flow, interdependencies, and risks
  • I’ve centralized multiple PC deliverables (such as reports for: Cost, schedule, progress, ..) to drive consistency and increased productivity resulting-in considerable savings on the 3rd Parties consultant costs
  • Developed level3 P6 schedules integrating scopes of the 9 projects. Rolled it up to level 2, 1, & roadmaps.
  • Defined the Key Interface Milestones and touch points driving the projects Critical path and Performance.
  • Developed definitive bottom-up cost estimates, and measured cost performance accordingly
  • Managed cost control/trending function including change Mgmt, Scope Changes, Forecast / Variance analysis.
  • Collaborated with Black & Veach to baseline the level3 deliverables-based Engineering schedule on Primavera used to control and measure the FEED progress by EWP

Nov 17 to June 20 - Suncor Energy – Calgary – Detroit - Madrid

Project: Coke Boiler Replacement (CAD$ 1,400M) 

Scope of Work EPC for the replacement of 3 coke-fired boilers with 2 efficient nat. gas cogeneration units, to generate 800 megawatts of reliable, low cost/carbon power to the Alberta grid..

My Role: Leading the implementation of Project Controls Systems from in Concept Selection, FEED, Detailed Eng, and Early Works site construction. My responsibility included working with 2 EPC houses Black & Veach (USA), and Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain) to develop packages for FEED and Detailed Engineering

 

Senior Cost Specialist

My work had led to the successful selection of the lowest responsible Bidder for both the FEED and Detailed Engineering phases:

  • Collaborated with the project team to evaluate and score Bids using unbiased criteria. 
  • Guided the Bid Winners in mapping their organization standards, procedures, and metrics with Suncor system.
  • Developed pre-gate Plans: PC controls plans, Schedule basis, Staffing plan, and Basis of Estimate.
  • Developed FEED class III estimate including preliminary MTO, work hours, and Indirect cost calculations
  • Worked with Tecnicas-Reunidas (TR) to setup-up rules of credit for performance metrics of the Execution stage. 
  • Developed work processes with TR to define Project WBS, Commodity Break down Structure (CBS), Schedule Levels of details, Management of Change, and Cash Flow projections.
  • Collaborated with TR to Develop the FEED estimate to an EPC execution Estimate by confirming final MTO, rate of placement, Modularization ratios, Allowance (Cut/waste/design/FX), Owner’s cost, and Indirects.
  • Used Earned Value Management Technique to bi-weekly measure the progress from Deliverables completion

 

 


 

Dec 2015 to Oct 2017- Suncor Energy - Fort McMurray - Alberta

 

Project: Fort Hill Infrastructure (CAD$ 1,200M) 

Scope of Work involved all the Infrastructure associated with the Fort Hill mine development. Including Non-Process Buildings, Roads, Earth moving, Lay down areas and Ware house, Undergrounds service, Pump stations… 

My Role: The implementation of Project Controls Systems during the Final Construction phase of the project including Final walkdown and Punch items 

 

Planning & Scheduling Specialist

My work had led to a 80M Budget savings as verified on the final closing out Cost report:

  • Rigorously managed the Resource loaded Construction schedule to accelerate critical tasks and balance Overtime spend with productivity for cost optimization.
  • Analyzed contractor level 4 schedule, verified it against the Execution plan path of construction.

Jan 2014 to Nov 2015 - Suncor Energy – Seoul (South Korea) -Calgary

 

Project: Secondary Extraction (CAD$ 2,400M) part of the overall Fort Hill 14 Billion Mine development

Scope of Work Involved the EPC work required in the “Secondary Extraction” area of Fort Hill to Engineer, Supply, and Install the Process units needed to remove solids and Solvent from the Primary Extraction Froth using a high-temperature paraffinic treatment to finally produce Bitumen. The Plant Capacity was 180k bpd

My Role: Management has engaged the South Korean firm SKEC to complete Front End Engineering Design (FEED) my role was to work with them in Seoul and Calgary offices to develop the Class III Estimate and level 3 schedule according to the Canadian Standards. In addition to the Cost/ Control work for the SKEC scope in the FEED Eng 

 

Cost and Schedule Lead

My work had resulted-in the completion of the Key Gate 3 deliverables required for project sanctioning that is the project Master Schedule, and the Class III Estimate

 

Gate 3 deliverables Accomplishments:

  • Conducted interactive planning sessions to develop the P6 baseline schedule and commodity/resource curves
  • Provided QA/QC audits of the Contractors scheduling processes/ quality, critical path. Checked compliance with Suncor work practices, initiated corrective measures.
  • Updated the PC sections of the PEP (PC plan, schedule basis, basis of Estimate, Cost summary, staffing plan…)
  • Collaborated with SKEC in the open book Estimating efforts to convert the FEED Estimate to EPC Lumpsum 
  • Audited Class III Estimate, reviewed rate of placements, Indirects to Direct Cost ratios, Work hours, Scope gaps, Equipment list, Long lead items, and Allowances for MTO, Cut & Waste, Design, rework.
  • Reviewed and Coordinated quantitative Risk analysis to calculate contingency. Reviewed ratios for Escalation (with the company market intelligence), ratios for capital spares, first fill, and Owner’s cost

 

Control of SKEC scope Accomplishments 

  • “Earned value technique” to integrated cost and schedule, and measure progress based on Eng deliverables
  • Implemented sound Cost Engineering principles to assess project performance using “Ecosys” and “SAP”
