Business Manager/Owner

As the business manager/co-owner of the Vape Shack in Yorkton, we built a flourishing business from the ground up. In this position I was responsible for all daily aspects of management. I not only worked in the shop, I ordered stock, took charge of shipping, receiving, merchandising, hiring, dismissals, staff management, payroll, books, money management and customer service – essentially, every aspect of keeping the business running profitably. I communicated regularly with suppliers, researched new product and built a Facebook page that gained thousands of followers. I handled customer complaints/problems and was told regularly how greatly our knowledge and professionalism was appreciated.

September 2000 to September 2015

At the News Review, I began as a writer. I had no previous experience in this industry except for the love of writing and the penning of several young children’s books which were published as E-Books. One sold in Australia! From this position I advanced to Editor where I was responsible for overseeing all editorial content of a bi-weekly newspaper. Duties included writing, interviewing, hiring, dismissals, communication, searching out story leads, copy placement, headline writing, proof reading, time management, customer relations. During this time I interviewed then Prime Minister (Stephen Harper) and I also had several articles published in various magazines as well as sold a couple of photos to the National Enquirer. I left this job on excellent terms with blessings to branch into our own business. 

• Prior to these long-term positions, I was a check encoder for the CIBC Bank in Calgary. I worked nights while raising two children and running a small day home. Before that I spent a year working in an optical store acting as receptionist and assistant to the optician. Prior to this, I was a chambermaid, working my way to Assistant Head Housekeeper in Banff, Alberta. I’ve planted trees and raked blue berries in Nova Scotia. I’ve worked since the age of 13 and hope to continue far into the future.
