About Vandana Kumra:

As a driven and empathetic leader with a robust track record in program development, facilitation, health management, and trauma-informed practices, I offer a wealth of valuable experience for clinical counsellor and educator positions. With my educational background in counselling psychology and kinesiology, I possess the ability to effectively integrate physical and mental health considerations. Having previously worked with survivors of human trafficking and exploitation, I have undergone extensive trauma-focused training, further enhancing my expertise. My ultimate objective is to secure a full-time position with a counselling agency that prioritizes comprehensive care.

Experience

Having worked as a Mental Health & Addiction Supervisor for survivors of human trafficking at Deborah’s Gate Safehouse and as a dedicated counselling psychology practicum student, I gained extensive experience in program development, facilitation, psychoeducation, research, and counselling.

I have successfully developed and implemented trauma-based programming and curricula for diverse groups throughout my career. Serving as a leadership team member at Deborah’s Gate Safehouse, I have comprehensively understood the best trauma-based practices and therapeutic orientations, including DBT, CBT, Somatic therapy, and Narrative therapy. Working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, I have developed holistic approaches to client wellness and created effective care plans for individuals with complex personality disorders and addictions. My experience of over three years working with survivors of severe trauma, some of whom were also offenders, has equipped me with the ability to navigate challenging situations with ease and confidence. Furthermore, I am dedicated to addressing oppressive forces such as racism, sexism, classism, and transphobia that often intersect with a client's story.

During my time as an Intern Counsellor at Moving Forward Family Services and Relationships Expert Vancouver, I provided valuable counselling support to vulnerable populations. I have honed my skills in completing detailed case notes and managing sensitive documents/files with the utmost ethical conduct and empathy. My mentors have commended me for being a quick learner and an adaptable, hardworking individual.

In addition to my practical experience, I hold a master's degree in counselling psychology and an active RCC (registered clinical counsellor) designation. I am committed to continuous professional development and staying abreast of the latest research and best practices in the field.

Education

I completed my BSc from Simon Fraser University in 2019. Later, I completed my MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2023.
