    24-047 A temporary 1.0 FTE District Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment (CIA) , Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator position is available . This position will report directly to the Director of Instruction. (Please note:If the successful candidate is a continuing SD72 teacher, the assignment will be continuing.)

    This position will support the understanding and implementation of social and emotional learning embedded curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Social emotional learning is the pathway towards equity, accessibility, diversity, and social justice.

    School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The District also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The District serves over 5,500 students in 18 schools.

    Campbell River is a scenic, oceanfront community framed by extensive waterfront, west coast forests and snow-capped mountains. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities such as skiing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, golf, and endless opportunities to experience nature.

    School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Liǧwiɫdax̌w people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K'ómoks (Sayward), and Xwe'malhkwu (Bute Inlet) First Nations.

    The District also respects and values the relationships with all other First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who reside in these territories. It is with respectful consideration that the programs and services provided to students and staff acknowledge their histories, cultural contributions, and contemporary concerns.

    Responsibilities (but not limited to) of the District CIA and SEL Coordinator:

    • Working extensively in grade K-5 schools, collaborating closely with the Middle / Secondary CIA and SEL Coordinator, to ensure alignment and scaffolding.
    • Leading and supporting social emotional learning (SEL) and assessment framework implementation initiatives;
    • Leading and supporting evidence based pedagogical practice and assessment;
    • Collecting and interpreting assessment data related to SEL, student satisfaction and connectedness with a team;
    • Working with teachers to utilize effective supports for student success in the area of social emotional learning;
    • Maintaining a current knowledge base of learning theory and research, Ministry programs, curricula and resources;
    • Providing leadership with SEL embedded integrated curricular approaches;
    • Communicating with teachers, administrators, other district personnel, Ministry of Education officials and others regarding District and Provincial programs
    • Identifying appropriate learning resources and facilitating the ordering of relevant learning resources for the district and schools;
    • Planning and implementing district based in-service opportunities which may occur outside of the normal school day;
    • Collaborating with other district coordinators to ensure an integrated approach to the diverse needs of learners in our schools;

    The ideal candidate must have:

    • A valid BC Certificate of Qualification through the Ministry of Education;
    • Strong interpersonal skills as the CIA/SEL Coordinator will work collaboratively with partner groups – including administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and community partners;
    • A passion and relentless pursuit for improving the life chances for all students through strong CIA/social emotional learning development and supports;
    • Extensive successful teaching, and,
    • A valid driver's license with access to a vehicle every day.

    The ideal candidate will have the following:

    • Extensive professional learning in curriculum, instruction, assessment and social emotional learning;
    • Experience designing programs and/or frameworks to diverse learning needs;
    • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous content;
    • Demonstrated professional development in First People's Principles of Learning;
    • Extensive work in mentoring and delivering professional development to other educators (administrators, teachers and educational support staff);
    • Proven ability to work well as an integral part of a team which could include administrators, district leadership team, classroom teachers, support teachers, educational support staff;
    • A deep understanding of current trends in social emotional learning and universal design for learning;
    • A deep understanding of how SEL is central to British Columbia's K-12 curriculum and assessment system, directly supporting students' growth as educated citizens;
    • A deep understanding of assessment and curriculum;
    • Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, organizational and consultation skills;
    • A desire to be innovative in approach;
    • Strong technology skills to utilize a variety of delivery modes to educators, parents, and students; and,
    • Exceptional communication skills - both written and oral.

    The starting full time salary for this teaching position ranges from $58,267 and $106,217. Placement on salary scale is subject to verification of experience and certification and will be done in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.
