    We have new opportunity in Aviva Business for a Commercial Unit Manager in the Ontario National Broker Branch. This role will lead a team of underwriters and will support the growth and profitability of the Designated Underwriting Authority (DUA). The DUA is comprised of realty and condominium business in Ontario and British Columbia. This role will depend on the leader to build relationships and to be seen as the trusted expert within the brokerage community.

    What You'll Do:


    •Be the face of Aviva Business Programs with our existing broker relationships and develop ongoing DUA strategy through review and evaluation of current performance, risk tolerance and capacity deployed against internal appetite and ensuring strong governance protocols are adhered to upon renewals.


    •Become the subject matter expert for DUA business within Aviva Business being able to facilitate collaboration between Underwriting, CTU, Governance, Analytics, Finance, and Claims


    •Manage $100M+ worth of DUA business through selected distribution partnerships and improve the relationship by leveraging internal resources to support the DUA operations, and ensure that their growth and profitability meet our targets


    •Strong level of understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory constraints, and computer workflow procedures.


    •Oversee development and review of KPIs to evaluate the current portfolio and suggest correcting measures where appropriate


    •Help facilitate, execute, and action file audits where applicable, to maintain tight controls over delegated authorities


    •Develop, support and mentor Junior to Senior Underwriting Staff, encouraging a movement towards portfolio management, referral underwriting and broker relationships.


    •Support preparation and delivery of quarterly business reviews with existing DUA partners


    •Work in close partnership with our Aviva Business Enablement Team to improve the processing workflow, reducing the workload required to capture and/or report on policy level information.

    What You'll Bring:

  • 10 years+ of experience in the P&C insurance industry in roles of increasing responsibility with 3-5 years leadership or mentorship experience (leading remote teams is an asset)
  • College diploma or university degree
  • CIP or FCIP Preferred
  • Exposure to one or several of the following: technical underwriting, strategy, portfolio and relationship management, finance, or analytics.
  • Strong underwriting knowledge in key P&C segments, specifically areas of property per risk and CAT accumulation
  • Strong understanding of BC, ON and AB insurance marketplace, law, and jurisdiction.
  • Informed about current trends and the market environment
  • Working knowledge of other functional areas (Claims, Risk Management, Finance)
  • Knowledge of broker (DUA) contracts an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, strong negotiation, and partnership skills to facilitate minimizing friction to deliver positive outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills are a must, you need to be able to provide clear, concise communication, and be an effective listener, and understand the needs of the target audience
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills

  • Salary range, based on experience : 79,500$ to 147,700$
