The Public Lands Disposition Management Section (PLDMS) is responsible for the administration of public land in Alberta.

This responsibility is mandated by legislation including, but not limited to, the_ Alberta Land Stewardship Act_, _Public Lands Act_, the _Mines and Minerals Act_, all associated Regulations, and applicable Ministerial Orders.

As a Land Administrator (LA) you would report directly to the team lead and perform a range of administrative, operational, and consultative activities relating to public land administration such as dispositions, approvals, and authorization.

This includes handling renewals, assignments, cancellations, rental charges, mapping fees, timber damage charges, and security deposits as well as the administering the collection of delinquent financial activities for land use activities.

You will also use maps and survey plans to identify conflicts, performs mathematical calculations, and use spreadsheets and databases to complete your work.


In this role you will:

  • Complete an administrative review and assessment of land use dispositions approvals/amendments/renewals/annual reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of submissions and compliance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures
  • Utilize the Corporate Accounting and Reporting System (CARS) for automated invoicing to clients, through a review of information relating to size and dimensions identified on survey plans and comparison of activity locations identified on survey plans
  • Examine and recommend acceptance of land related documents presented for registration in the official department records and recommend rejection of documents that are not properly completed and advise legal professionals and the general public regarding the reasons for rejection
  • Contribute to the creation, revision, and updating of forms, glossaries, and manuals, as well as other projects and duties as required


Please note this competition will be used to fill four temporary salaried positions with a term date of approximately 12 months from time of hire, and one temporary wage position with a term date of approximately 5 months from time of hire.


Qualifications:


Required:

Two year diploma in Land Administration, Land Analyst, Legal Assistant, or a related field.

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year education

Assets:


  • Preference will be given to Land Administrators who have successfully completed the Advanced Alberta Surface Land Administration course or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the Public Lands Act and Regulations, department policies, directives, and procedure manuals as applicable to the team's responsibilities.
  • An awareness of the implications of the _Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act_, _Surface Rights Act_, _Forest Act_, _Forest Reserves Act_, _Water Act_, _Municipal Government Act_, _Government Organization Act_, _Public Highways Development Act_, _Land Titles Act_, and _Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act_ as they affect public land activities.
  • An understanding of industries in Alberta associated with designated land activities on public lands (e.g. oil and gas industry, agricultural industry), including technical terminology.
