    Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and solving real-world problems? IMAX is seeking a talented R&D Metrology Scientist to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Research and Development department, you will leverage your expertise in materials science, physics, or engineering physics to investigate and address reliability issues in our cutting-edge projection systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams and contribute to groundbreaking advancements in cinema technology. This is a 12 months contract role.

    What You'll Do:

  • Lead Investigations for root cause analysis on field failures & reporting results to senior stakeholders.
  • Design and carry out experiments to prove/disprove theories related to the source of field failures.
  • Consult with the broad cross functional team to get a better understanding of the variety of contamination sources that could be present in a theater booth environment.
  • Investigate new technologies related to IMAX projection systems.
  • Formulate and execute test plans following a problem solving process such as 5 why, fishbone, 8D, etc.
  • Develop analytical tools and insights on data from deployed systems.
  • Contribute to the concept phase development for designated R&D projects.
  • Measure component and system level performance against design metrics.
  • Assume a supporting role in defining new R&D projects.
  • Author technical documentation & present results to management periodically.
  • Author technical documentation used as inputs for the install, manufacturing and service teams' manuals and instructions periodically.
  • Travel occasionally on site for troubleshooting, diagnostics and field testing.
  • What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience in a real-world R&D, product development or quality assurance environment.
  • Strong material science background with excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify root cause failures in manufactured products used in clean environments.
  • Familiarity with analysis of components/elements, eg interpreting gas chromotography, mass spectrometry results on test samples
  • Proven ability to model and predict the performance of complex systems.
  • Excellent laboratory skills and capability of using a wide variety of equipment.
  • Experience with scientific analysis programming environments (ie, matlab and python).
  • Understanding of colour science and display calibration is a plus.
  • Understanding of audio tuning and calibration is a plus.
  • Good breadth of knowledge including mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineering.
  • A PEng designation is a plus.
  • Good understanding of quality management processes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
