    We are looking to hire an Assistant General Counsel, North America to join our Legal & Compliance team in Toronto who will report to our Deputy General Counsel, Americas.

    In this business facing role you will be primarily providing legal advice and support to our North American (re)insurance businesses, assisting the Deputy General Counsel, Americas in day-to-day activities and delivering projects, liaising with regulators and clients in the United States and Canada to address regulatory and legal queries.

    In more detail your responsibilities will be to:In consultation with appropriate Legal Department leadership, retain, oversee, and manage the work of outside counsel and ensure adherence to outside counsel guidelines and budget requirementsProvide correct and timely assessment of legal and compliance issues and give customer focused and solution oriented legal advice, while retaining independence as legal adviserIdentify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and reputational risksProvide assistance and support to the company and fellow legal team members on a wide range of regulatory matters, including cyber security and data protectionNegotiate and assist in drafting of specialized life and health reinsurance agreementsProvide legal research, counsel and support to non-legal managers and employees on various aspects of PartnerRe's businessProvide general corporate/commercial advice to the business on a variety of legal issues including HR and employment matters


    QualificationsAbout you:


    We are looking for a technically strong candidate, who enjoys collaborating with internal and external partners, and seeks a challenging new job in a fast-paced environment.

    As an ideal candidate you possess the following experience, skills and mindset:

    A Law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent) from an accredited law school; and membership in good standing of any state within the United States; New York and Connecticut a plusFour or more years of experience at a law firm or in-house legal department.

    Ideally, you have prior client-facing experience with (re)insurance or financial institutionsInternational, cross-jurisdictional experience and exposure is a plusExperience with cyber security, data protection and North American privacy regulationPrior experience with life and health (re)insurance products, including contract negotiation and regulation is a plusGood project management capabilities"Open to change" and "can do" attitudeFluent in English, other languages, ideally French or Spanish, are an assetStrong interpersonal skills and communication styleEffective time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and on own initiativePreviously demonstrated ability to work well within a team, and to build strong relationships with colleaguesA wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
