    Description

    R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is seeking a highly motivated and creative Graphic Designer to join our in-house design team, with the option to work out of our Pickering, Guelph, or Mississauga office. The ideal candidate should have a passion for design and be proficient in using Adobe Create Cloud. The candidate will work closely with the design team, with direction from the Creative Services Manager, to create visually appealing and effective designs that align with our company and clients' brand guidelines.

    What to expect

    The successful candidate will contribute to existing creative services projects to support the company, while assisting with the development of new initiatives aligned with company and client brand objectives. This individual will have experience in graphic design, be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, be an organized multitasker, and be able to handle many diverse projects at once while meeting tight deadlines.

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Completing various creative services support initiatives, including both print and digital media (proposal materials, brochures, conference materials, advertisements, case studies, etc.);
    • Implementing revisions based on internal and/or client feedback;
    • Editing/retouching existing assets as required (photographs, renderings, site plans, etc.);
    • Creating long document layouts in Adobe InDesign for proposal submissions;
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand design requirements and contribute to the development of creative solutions;
    • Staying up to date with current trends and best practices to ensure designs are fresh and innovative; and
    • Other duties as assigned.

    We are considering applications from candidates with:

    • A minimum of two years' work experience as a Graphic Designer;
    • A Degree or Diploma in Graphic Design, or related field;
    • Excellent computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud [InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator] at a minimum) with demonstrated interest and ability to learn new systems;
    • Strong time management and organizational skills;
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and clients, keeping deadlines without compromising on quality;
    • A strong understanding of design principles, layout, typography and color theory;
    • Printing and/or production experience; and
    • A valid Driver's License with access to a vehicle, as occasional travel may be required.

    Qualified candidates should also possess:

    • Exceptional commitment to client service with a strong sense of urgency;
    • Ability to work independently and be agile in a fast-paced environment.
    • A high level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning;
    • Strong attention to detail with high ethical standards;
    • Openness to feedback and the ability to articulate a vision and provide rationale for creative choices as they relate to a project's strategic goals;
    • Relationship building skills with individuals at all levels of the organization; and
    • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

    The following skills/experience are considered an asset:

    • Working knowledge of AODA and other accessibility standards;
    • WordPress experience;
    • Video development and editing skills;
    • Photography; and
    • Signage and wayfinding experience.
