- Reviews and audits current state of Library spaces, including identifies potential problems and recommends solutions
- Researches best practices for design, accessibility, sustainability, service design, and other considerations for the Library's built environment
- Develops design standards
- Observes customer and staff use of Library spaces and makes recommendations for improvements as required
- Builds relationships with staff, community partners and the public
- Supports staff to improve the look and function of the Library spaces Design
- Prepares design recommendations and production of design drawings and documents for planning and construction purposes
- Specifies and designs furniture, wayfinding, speciality millwork, etc.
- Ensures that plans for design improvements align with the organization's goals and priorities Project Management
- Liaises with all internal and external stakeholders during project planning and implementation
- Coordinates, schedules, and manages small to medium sized project budgets
- Acts as a main point of contact for Facilities projects
- Supports community engagement work Staff Supervision
- This position will be the direct supervisor for a number of Facilities staff DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
- Bachelor's degree in a design-related field (architecture, interior design, architectural technology) plus four (4) years of experience in a similar role OR
- Master's degree plus two (2) years of experience in a similar role OR
- Another combination of education and experience that meets the requirements Required:
- Read and write English
- Read, understand and produce architectural/design drawings
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and drafting/3D Modeling software (for example: VectorWorks, Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp)
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills - oral, written, graphic
- Have knowledge and expertise of best practices for the design of public spaces
- Have demonstrated leadership experience
- Employ basic budget and finance concepts and terminology
- Experience with public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and have a high level of autonomy
- Ability to work collaboratively with team(s)
- Experience in community engagement Assets:
- Experience with public procurement and tendering procedures
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience working with provincial building codes and regulations including, Occupational Health and Safety requirements
- Designated RHFAC Professional
- Be a registered Architect or Intern Architect, Interior Designer, Architectural Technologist, or PMP with architectural design experience TRAVEL
- Standard office working inside a public Library building
- Some outdoor work related to site visits and construction projects
- Scheduled work week with occasional flexibility
- Possible exposure to construction/renovation conditions (dust, dirt, work sites etc.)

ABOUT THE POSITION
TheManager, Space Planning and Design is responsible for assisting with all aspects of planning, design and management of activities associated with Facilities projects for Halifax Public Libraries. The Manager will work with various teams including Management, Facilities, Finance, Wellness and safety, evaluate, and advance best practices throughout the built environments of all Halifax Public Libraries branches.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
TheManager, Space Planning and Design's responsibilities will be comprised of four major categories:

This position will need to travel to various library branches and sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Access to reliable transportation is required.
