    Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the full-time, permanent position of YouthProgramming Lead at Halifax Central Library.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Under the direction of the Manager, Program Design, as a Youth Programming Lead at Halifax Public Libraries, you will:
  • Plan, coordinate and evaluate Library programs and services for children and teens across all districtsWork with District Managers, District Programming and Engagement Leads, and regional teams to respond to identified needs with new or improved programs and servicesInitiate, develop and maintain relationships with key contacts and community partners Develop and coordinate annual and seasonal system-wide program cycles Plan and monitor staffing, scheduling and budgeting of programs and servicesCreate proposals; write grant applications; monitor grant staffing, activity and spending; and meet evaluation and reporting requirementsDevelop and implement promotion plans for programs and services with Marketing and Communications
  • Provide programs and services, and model excellent program and services delivery for staff
  • Work with and/or lead teams to develop regional programs and services
  • Work with Manager, Learning and Development to create and implement staff training plans
  • Oversight of volunteer programs
  • Lead teams of specialists from across districts who plan youth programs and services
  • Hire staff with support from HR
  • Supervise Service Advisor, Regional Programming directing work toward excellent service outcomes
  • Train and coach staff and performance management of direct report
  • Create and implement procedures; improve processes and direct workflow
  • Collect performance measures, identify trends, write reports, and create action plans
  • Act as a Person in Charge for library locations within the branch team
  • Foster a respectful workplace for library staff and users: Respond to safety concerns,, address comments and complaints, prepare incident reports and debrief with staff as required Recognize and address difficult behaviours and develop team responses Display, promote, and perform work duties in a positive and safe way and display safety awareness at all times Support and show leadership by working to health and safety standards, follow health and safety policies and procedures and encourage colleagues to work to the same standards by reporting incidents, hazardous conditions and improvement possibilities
  • DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

    Education and Experience:
  • Graduate Degree in Library Science, Information, or another Human Services Field and two (2) years of related experience
  • (OR)
  • Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related experience
  • (OR)
  • Two (2) years of Post-Secondary and six (6) years of related experience
  • Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to address staff performance issues
  • Knowledge of best practices in Information and Readers' Advisory services or Information and Referral services

  • Experience with partnership development
  • Experience working in diverse communities
  • Experience in program planning, delivery and evaluation for children and teens
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills including: Functions of a web browser Microsoft office applications Social media applications
  • Intermediate technology skills including: Willingness to learn and experiment with additional tools and technologiesWillingness to support others in learning technical skills and concepts

  • TRAVEL
    The position requires travel between our various library branches and community sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
