    This position is located at the NAIT'sCentre for Boreal Research in Peace River, Alberta. Peace River is a vibrantcommunity of approximately 7,000 people in the heart of the Boreal Forest ofNorthwest Alberta. It offers a variety of urban amenities but with a small-townfeel

    The position"Research Assistant - Plant and Seed Technologies" will support the developmentof methods and technics to collect, treat, enhance and deploy plant propaguleson disturbed boreal sites. The position will have two primary functions. The first will be focused on buildingcapacity in terms of field based, greenhouse and laboratory activities (designand execution) related to increasing knowledge and practical methodology aroundplant and seed delivery systems. Thesecond function will be to assist with write-up of proposals and reporting.

    KeyResponsibilities:

  • Conductingapplied research projects using one or more of the following:
  • Conduct literaturereviews
  • Search, selection,and request of supplies necessary for the project
  • Manageand respond to project related email
  • Field, Lab andGreenhouse related experiment design, execution and data collection (with alarge focus on field activities)
  • Supervise summerresearch assistants
  • Field work in avariety of locations and climatic conditions
  • Assistwith proposal writing, prepare technical reports of completed project for theclient, for presentation to agency requesting project, or for use in furtherapplied or theoretical research activities.
  • Skills& Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate will haveknowledge and versatility in a working environment that presents a wide varietyof technical and operational challenges.
  • Knowledge and experience in plantphysiology is a strong asset.
  • Strongwritten and verbal communication skills is essential to this role.
  • Thisposition does periodically require shift work, heavy manual labor for fieldproject set up.
  • Qualifications:

  • Diplomain forest ecology, land reclamation, plant physiology, biological sciences, orenvironmental science related program. Bachelor of Science is an asset.
  • 12 months of related experience
  • Experience in experimental designand execution
  • Validdriver's license
  • Equivalenciesmay be considered
  • Remuneration : $56, $74,115.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification –Research Assistant ll).

    Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
