    Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)



    General Accountability

    The program head provides academic and first-point-of-contact leadership for students, faculty, and staff in their assigned program. The program head works closely with the academic chair and program faculty, staff, and administration daily to assist students in achieving success through quality education and training delivery.

    Nature & Scope

    Based in Saskatoon, the program head reports to the academic chair, School of Nursing. The program head may need to travel for program and administrative responsibilities, including participation in inter-site committees. The School of Nursing provides Continuing Care Assistants certificates offering general, introductory, and specialized courses through varied delivery methods.

    The primary role is to provide a link between the program faculty, staff, and students to the academic chair to maintain effective communication and support. This involves coordinating between the program and external stakeholders such as industry, accrediting agencies, other educational institutions, business sectors, or government as they relate to programming needs. The program head will also assist in developing and monitoring the program's financial resources and recommending efficiencies as required. Additionally, the program head initiates curriculum development and renewal at the program level, liaises with student affairs, provides academic advising and monitoring, and assists in student recruitment and retention.


    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities


    • Monitor delivery of quality programming responsive to student, business/industry, and public needs.
    • Champion academic activity including curriculum development, instructional methods, and academic standards.
    • Lead student-centered program operations focusing on excellence in service, safety, and delivery.
    • Ensure quality academic offerings through sound policies, procedures, and participation in Program Advisory Committees.
    • Participate in program accreditation and review, identify and develop proposals for projects, recommend research opportunities, and provide content expertise.
    • Support student recruitment, enrolment, orientation, success, and diversity initiatives.
    • Lead staff and faculty to reflect organizational values, encourage productivity, job satisfaction, and growth.
    • Represent the School internally and externally, maintain relationships, manage resources effectively, contribute to budget development, and implement strategic planning aligned with initiatives.
