Duties:

In Labour Relations, you have the opportunity to have a direct impact on people's careers and lives.

This is a field of Human Resources where people reach out to us in a moment of need, when there are challenges or even crises.

Often, managers want to do the right thing, but require guidance. That is where Labour Relations Advisors come in.

We understand the resources, tools and policies that can help improve a difficult situation while acting with integrity, compassion, honesty, initiative, and respect.

At Transport Canada, our programs and policies address the movement of people and goods in four main modes - rail, marine, road, and air.

As a result, Senior Labour Relations Advisors have the opportunity to work with seven (7) bargaining agents providing support and guidance under twelve (12) different collective agreements in both an operational and corporate level capacity.

In the course of your development as a Labour Relations Advisor at Transport Canada, you will an opportunity to:

  • Provide functional labour relations advice and guidance to all levels of management, including our most senior executives, and our regional Labour Relations colleagues.
  • Provide operational support and guidance, to all levels of management whose employees substantively report to Headquarters.
  • Manage and coordinate various formal and informal redress mechanisms, including internal grievance processes, National Joint Council hearings, mediation and settlement discussions, etc.
  • Provide support and information to legal services and the Centre for Labour and Employment Law (CLEL) in regard to Canadian Human Rights Complaints, litigation files, settlement mandates, etc.
  • Interpret collective agreements and applicable policies in relation to case specific inquiries.
  • Participate and coordinate input into various collective bargaining processes and strike contingency planning.
  • Collaborate with internal Human Resources partners including the Disability Management Unit, Corporate Policy, Workplace Relations Unit, etc.

This role will appeal to someone who has a strategic mindset, is highly motivated and results-oriented, has excellent communication skills, sound judgement, thrives in a fast-paced environment and works equally well autonomously or within a team.

In addition, we want the people who join us to be problem solvers and helpers, people with empathy and a strong sense of values in order to fully support Management and the entire workplace in achieving the best possible outcomes for everyone involved.

If you are inspired by the opportunity to partner with clients and to meet the organization's Labour Relations needs, we would like to hear from you
