COMMUNICATION

Duties:

Duties

  • Performing research into potential vehicle and equipment safety defect issues documenting and findings.
  • When required, supporting inspectors in their investigations.
  • Establishing the foundations for investigations into alleged or suspected safetyrelated defects associated with the design, construction or functioning of motor vehicles, tires or child car seats; keeps companies and the department informed of the development and progress of defect investigations; and brings new major safety concerns to management's attention in a timely manner so that the department can take appropriate risk mitigation actions.
  • Promoting compliance with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act by providing clarification on the regulatory requirements to companies; and providing expert advice on motor vehicle safety issues to manufacturers and importers, departmental officials, other federal and provincial government departments, safety standards organizations, foreign regulatory authorities, law enforcement agencies, public interest groups, and members of the public.

Transport Canada's mission is to promote a safe and secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation system for Canadians, including regulating the manufacture and importation of vehicles, tires and child car seats to reduce the risk of deaths and injuries.

We are looking to staff the position of Field Complaint Analyst / Defect Investigator - Automotive.

The position will entail working remotely in a hybrid work arrangement, performing field work documenting alleged safety related defects with motor vehicles and equipment.


Investigation findings are prepared and shared with the Defect Investigations and Recalls Division who is based at the Motor Vehicle Safety Investigation Lab, a state-of-the-art, best-kept-secret facility.

The lab is located in the National Capital Region's Gatineau (Hull sector).


You will work closely with road safety partners, consumers, dealers, manufacturers, forensic scientists and others and will conduct field investigations into alleged or suspected safety-related defects associated with the design, construction or functioning of vehicles, tires or child car seats.

You will be working remotely in the Province of British Columbia with the majority of files taking place in the greater Vancouver area.

Education

ED:
A secondary school diploma or acceptable combination of education, training and/or related experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience

EX1:
Recent* experience in conducting field investigations, documenting vehicles, collisions, incident scenes or consumer products.
- "Recent" experience means experience acquired within the past five years.

EX2:
Recent* and significant** experience in the automotive or other similar technical fields.
- "Recent" experience means experience acquired within the past five years.

**"Significant" experience means three or more years of relevant experience.

EX3:
Experience taking photographs for the purposes of documenting and analysis.


EX4:
Experience dealing with consumers.


EX5:
Experience liaising with and providing guidance to partners and industry.

EX6:
Experience writing documents or technical reports.

EX7:

Experience reviewing and analysing technical documents/information such as, but not limited to, technical service bulletins, customer satisfaction programs, warranty, field reports, etc.


EX8:
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).

Education

A
ED:
Three-year program at an Institute of Technology specializing in mechanical engineering or automotive technology, or equivalent.
Licensed as an automotive technician in a Canadian Province or Territory.
