Halifax Port Authority ("HPA") requires a
Manager, Safety & Compliance
The role reports to the Director, Marine Operations & Harbour Master with a direct line to the President & CEO.
The Manager, Safety & Compliance will establish, lead and monitor compliance of Health and Safety Management Systems and Fire Safety across the organization in accordance with statutory requirements, international standards and industry best practices.
This role will also focus on the oversight of the Halifax Port Authority Landside marine terminal safety, Real Estate tenant safety and Construction safety as well as supporting Emergency Management and Site Logistics.
This role will incorporate synergies between policies, programs, procedures, knowledge, experience, training, communications and community outreach.This position will also be responsible to maintain relationships with exterior agencies at all levels, such as Employment and Social Development Canada, Transport Canada, Public Health Agency of Canada, and Public Safety Canada.
Professional HSE qualification from recognized safety organizations such as having a CRSP, CRST, or CHSC designation or being enrolled in the program or a recognized safety program will be considered an asset.
The incumbent will possess appropriate tertiary level qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or other qualifications as in a similar field, as deemed necessary.
The incumbent will currently be in a role within Occupational Health and Safety Management or a related field with a minimum ten (10) years' experience within an HSE compliance/administration role.
Experience in the design, drafting and implementation of all core elements and maintenance of ISO 45001 Standard.
Significant experience in building and maintaining a risk register and coaching staff in risk management principles appropriate for their role.
The Manager, Safety and Compliance will promote innovation by utilizing their experience in implementing safety management software to increase employee engagement, utilize data to proactively inform decision making, and provide real-time insight into safety management system performance.
The Manager, Safety and Compliance will be confident in affecting and managing change to deliver a modern and effective safety management system.
Accountabilities
Management and Leadership
The Manager, Safety and Compliance provides leadership, direction and management to all departments; and assists with the oversite by providing leadership and direction for Occupational Health and Safety at HPA.
This role develops and maintains an effective working relationship with all levels of Management, internal department supervisors, employees, and all external contacts by employing effective communication.
The incumbent will utilize their leadership and communication skills to build consensus on all Health and Safety matters, improve employee engagement and promote program participation.
