    Description

    Physiotherapists assess patients and plan and carry out individually designed treatment programs to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunctioning in patients.

    Duties May Include
    Physiotherapists perform some or all of the following duties:
    Plan and implement individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore patients' physical functions, alleviate pain, and prevent physical problems;
    Assess and test patients' physical abilities, and evaluate their progress;
    Include exercise, manipulations, massage, hydrotherapy, and the use of ectrotherapeutic and other mechanical equipment in their programs;
    Maintain clinical/statistical records;
    Communicate with referring physician/other health care professionals about patients' problems, needs, and progress;
    Develop and implement health promotion programs for patients, staff, and the community;
    Provide consulting or education services;

    May focus on particular clinical areas such as neurology sciences, orthopedics, cardiorespiratory health or pediatrics, or on the treatment of specific disorders/injuries such as sports injuries, burns, and arthritis.
