Intent of the process

Although the immediate intent is to staff 1 position, applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions, at this group and level, with various language requirements listed in the Language Requirements section. Education:

• Successful completion of a post-secondary program from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in a field relevant to the position, such as biological science, medical laboratory technology diploma, or veterinary technology diploma.

Note:
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Experience

• Experience in the planning, development and evaluation of ongoing laboratory operations

• Experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in a clinical laboratory

Asset Experience
Experience working with samples of animal origin
Experience in the planning, development and evaluation of the operations of a biochemistry or hematology laboratory
Experience in the planning, development and evaluation of the operations of a histopathology laboratory

Asset Knowledge
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of biochemistry, hematology and multiplexing
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of histotechnology & immunohistochemistry

Asset Abilities
Ability to operate hematology and biochemistry analysers.
Ability to operate scientific equipment used in the histopathology laboratory
Ability to produce high quality histopathology slides and to stain them using a variety of stains such Haematoxylin-Eosin, Periodic Acid Schiff, Masson Trichrome, etc.

Operational Requirements:
Ability to work overtime on short notice.
Ability to work with potentially infectious agents & potentially toxic substances
Ability to work with the common toxic and carcinogenic chemicals in a histopathology laboratory.
Ability to have frequent exposure to rodent tissues

Conditions of employment
