- Foster positive relations with community social services agencies/resources.
- Work with Corps Officers to establish the framework for Community Family Services (CFS) and establish a formal program plan for CFS.
- Develop and implement effective and relevant workshops and programs for clients/families
- Organize and oversee seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hampers, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, etc.)
- Train and supervise CFS volunteers
- Oversee compliance of Health & Safety Standards for CFS.
- Responsible for ongoing mapping of local social service programs for the benefit of the ministry unit and its staff and clients.
- Support significant Public Relations and local special events
- As a member of the senior leadership team, participate in appropriate committees (CRD CFS Coordinating Committee, CRD Regional Integration Forum, Community Council- Chair)
- Direct and supervise a small CFS staff team, including a receptionist and caseworker(s).
- Approve staff absences (sickness, vacation, etc.) in HR system.
- Supports the Corps Officers in the ongoing stewarding and expansion of the Ministry Unit's donor base.
- Provide spiritual guidance and use every opportunity to help clients become part of the Body of Christ.
- Case management of clients
- May conduct initial intake of clients
- Assist clients in making connections within the community by making meaningful referrals to community resources.
- Network with other service providers and maintain working relationships with community agencies to provide comprehensive services for clients.
- Facilitate clients connecting to spiritual programs/services offered by High Point Community Church as appropriate.
- Uphold confidentiality in accordance with The Salvation Army policy and applicable legislation
- Keep accurate statistical records
- Monitor department revenue and expenses on a monthly basis.
- Receive (and/or decline) and sort/organize non-monetary donations.
- Assist in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Community Family Services Office and donation centre/ program space.
- Participate in ongoing training as provided.
- Make recommendations re. training for team members
- The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sw.)
- Alternate education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum one year of prior related experience, including, experience in casework environments, which may include issues of homelessness, mental health, unemployment, abuse, addiction, parenting/ family issues.
- The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work.
- The job may require the use of crisis intervention skills to de-escalate situations.
- The performance of the job requires attentive listening (for supervision, casework, conflict resolution, etc.),
- The performance of the job requires an ability to respond with empathy and compassion.
